I have two eBooks that I loaned to one of my contacts in July. The 14 days have expired and a different contact would like me to loan the eBooks to her. I no longer have the LendMe feature by the eBooks in both my online library and on my Nook library. I have found nothing that indicates anyone else has had problems with in the forums I have searched. Thoughts on how to fix this so I can lend the eBooks again?

Books can only be lent one time, so there isn't anything that can be fixed.

From the nook user manual:
"You can only lend an eBook one time.
It only counts as the one time lending if your friend accepts the lending offer. If the lending offer expires or your friend rejects the offer, you can still lend the eBook." (page 124)

I am more than likely going to stop buying books for my Nook because of this. It is very common for my sister, my mother, and I to share paperback books between the 3 of us. If I can not share with more than one person the nook is worthless to me. I am going back to paper. B&N has just lost out as I buy from Borders for paper......

and borders might end up folding...... Also it clearly stated in the specs that you can loan some books once for 14 days. so it shouldn't really shock anyone if they look it up before they purchase... just saying... and there are ways to share with you mom and sister if you don't mind them having access to your account

There are a couple of ways to share books within a family that don't require lend me.
The first is to have all the NOOKs in a household registered to the same account. The advantage of this is that whatever book is purchased on the account gets downloaded to all NOOK devices registered to the account. THe disadvantages are that all NOOKs registered to the account get access to all books in the account (you might not want mom to know about that erotic romance novel you are currently reading). Also there is one credit card shared by all users of the account, which could cause conflicts for a family of adults sharing the account.
THe second method is to side-load books to the NOOKs of family members. In order for the other NOOKs to be able to open and read the books your credit card information will need to be entered into the NOOKs to authorize the books. If you are all living in the same household (or nearby) you can just have mom and sis hand you their NOOK so you can type the info in. Once entered the credit card information does not need to be added again (unless you reset the NOOK).

The second is what my family (4 of us) and a friend do to share books. Totally easy!

I also use the 2nd method with my family and one friend. You only have to put your cc number in once and it's not stored, so it's a great way to share.
And to Janie who said B&N lost a customer because of this, you should be aware that this is not a decision B&N gets to make, it's made by the publishers, B&N has no control over what books are lendable from major publishers, so if you want be upset with someeone, make sure it's the right party, the one who is making the decision.

I like Haleakala_LKB's idea. It's stupid that you can only lend a book once. I don't lend a PHYSICAL book ONLY once, so why can I not lend a nook book more than once?

Here are detailed directions on sharing books. http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOK-Techni
The only thing we do differently is sign into each other's BN library on line and download to our own computers. So I log into my husband's BN account, see if he's bought anything lately I want and if yes, download it and sideload to my NOOK. I have previously input his CC# into my NOOK so it will open right up.
Yes, this does involve a level of trust with the person you are sharing with. With us, it is family and a good friend. If you do NOT want to give another access to your account (understandable) do it Doug's way, and then you can just hand your NOOK to the friend or family member and they can put their own CC# in as well. It is never going to be viewable on your NOOK and shouldn't need input more than once.

Because the publishers can't control what you do with a printed book once you buy it, if they could figure out a way, they could. But they can control it with eBooks so they do.
One of the reasons I can see for the publishers' concern is the lending sites that were popping up for a while. If people limited lending to their close circle of friends, which is generally what happens with printed books that would be one thing.
But when sites are set up where you can list your book and anyone who joins can then request and borrow the book, that's abusing the option. Sort of like Napster for books, they're trying to prevent that. Are they going about it the right way, I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure that is part of what's behind the lending limit. That and basically because they can so the do.

I don't know for sure, but I think when they say that a book can only be lent one time that they mean it can only be lent to one person at a time. I just wish that a person from Barnes and Noble would clarify what it meant because there is a lot of confusion on this subject.

There shouldn't be.
It is exactly as it's stated. "Lend Me" books can be lent once. Period. Full-stop. Not once per recipient, not to one person at a time, but once.
