I woke up my Nook to read, and it immediately went into software update.
So after a few minutes, it finished the update. It directed me to re-register, and so I did.
So now instead of having the 1.7.0 update, it has gone back to the 1.4.3 update. ???
And, there are no shelves. And, I'll have to re-load all the books again. Sigh.
Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be worried?
Is this Nook telling me we're through? Is it circling the drain?
(I have about 12 months left on the extended 2 year warranty.)
Any words of wisdom will be appreciated. Thanks. --Cats R Us

Generally this happens shortly after an update and is an indication of a bad install.
Assuming it's been some time since v1.7 was installed it may be "circling the drain." The device is supposed to revert to the factory preinstalled software if it encounters problems starting up.
In your situation if it is still under warranty call customer support.
If it is out of warranty I wouldn't do anything other than use it for a month and see if it happens again. After a month without any problems I would install v1.7 and continue using it.

The 1.7.0 update was installed some months ago, when it was first released. No problems there.
Instead of entering the 8th Circle of Hades that is the 1-800 support number, I called the Nook Manager at the B&N down the road, and will try to update back to 1.7.0 using the store WiFi. (I don't have home WiFi.) I'm going to visit tomorrow. Crossing fingers, we'll see if it works...
I do have the extended warranty. It is good for another 12 months or so. I'm glad I bought it.
Thanks for the advice! Happy/Merry Holiday of your choice!
