Re: NOOK 1ST EDITION UPDATE PROBLEMS

I thought I would update everyone on the status of my situation.  Well I emailed Zoe on Facebook who is the Barnes & Noble contact with my problem.  She replied back to me the problem was too involved, that I should contact the 1-800 Nook technical support number.

So I contacted the technical support number and the gentleman couldn't understand the problem with the updates or the book covers not coming through to my Nook.  He checked with his Supervisor and they both agreed my Nook needed to be replaced.

He told me to call back the next day because he couldn't get in contact with the B&N warranty section.  They were not picking up his telephone calls.  I called back the next day, got a different representative on the phone of course, she looked up my call from the day before and arranged for a Nook to be sent to me.   I received a refurbished Nook a few days later.  All the updates (1.7) are in the refurbished Nook, But still, none of my book covers are showing up.

Once again I called the 1-800 Nook support number and I talked to a representative that had no idea what was the problem was with the covers.  She said for me to take it to a Barnes & Noble store and maybe they can find out what the problem is with my Nook since they can actually look at my Nook.

So that's where I am at folks, next step, going to a Barnes & Noble store to get help like I originally did back in November of 2010 when the update problem first started.  How is that for full circle !!??

Re: NOOK 1ST EDITION UPDATE PROBLEMS

Did you ever get the problem fixed? I am having the exact same problem with my nook 1st edition.

Thanks!

Yeset: are you using 3G? There's speculation that B&N is no longer sending covers over 3G, only over Wi-Fi.

Re: NOOK 1ST EDITION UPDATE PROBLEMS

The problem was never fixed on my Nook.  The representative at customer service stated there was no way to fix the problem and Barnes & Noble replaced my Nook.  I got a refurbished one of course, not a brand new one because my warranty was expired.  But I am still very happy and all the covers are showing up on my Nook and I have not had a problem with the replaced Nook.

Re: NOOK 1ST EDITION UPDATE PROBLEMS

I have searched the update issues, but just want a bottom line answer.  I have kept my nook on airplane mode after hearing so much negative response to 1.6 and 1.7 updates on these threads.  However, mostly people reply when they have a problem obviously.  Mine is now at the 1.5 update. Now my problem arises, I bought Wicked when it was at a lower price and want to re-read it before I see the play next month. However, it won't load via 3G and I have to download it with the wireless mode.  If I put WiFi on the new update will also start.  I have the box that still says update available (I don't know if it is only the dreaded 1.6 or both).  I don't have the extra memory card, but I don't want to invite trouble. Any thoughts?

I thought the 1.5 update was better, but I haven't had any problems with the 1.7 update. If you turn on wifi that is what you will get. I kept wifi off until it came out and never got the 1.6 version. You can also download Wicked to a pc and sideload it to your nook. You don't need a separate sd card for that. btw - I just finished the book and saw the play two summers ago. There are some differences between the two. I liked the play better.

Thank you tmr4.  I didn't think of sideloading.  I did see the play on Broadway before and just loved it, and it is now coming to town and I am so excited to see it again.  Yes, I was shocked at how different it was from the book.  I'm really not sure which I liked best, but I did like the ending of the play much better.  Thanks again for your helpful suggestion!

Re: NOOK 1ST EDITION UPDATE PROBLEMS

I never had the problems with 1.7 that others seemed to, other than the cover issue.

And that existed to an extent in 1.5 as well. So I suspect it has less to do with the software and more to do with how B&N is managing the 3G access.

Yes, B&N has never officially confirmed that they are restricting cover downloads via 3G. But based on my experience, it seems to be the case.

One of the things I'm glad about with my N2E. I may no longer have 3G (gave that one to my daughter), but when I am near wi-fi the updates seem to go much more smoothly.

Re: NOOK 1ST EDITION UPDATE PROBLEMS

After hearing everyone else's problems with updates I was surprised. The only problem I was having was that I wasn't getting updates. The funny thing is after reading this post suddenly yesterday the updates started coming in. It really wasn't that bad. The only thing was that 1.6 dumped all my settings and unregistered my nook. As soon as I connected to the wireless again 1.7 downloaded and installed. I had to reset my preferences and sync my library, but all and all I really can't complain. Haven't noticed any problems yet, and now I'm up to date.
