PrivateJoker, Mysticalwaters1 are you resolve a problem?

Tomorrow last day when i can return/change my nook, so i have a question...

BN_AlexG, answer please, does this problem have solution today or will be resolved in near future (update or fix)? Or that is hardware problem and i need change my device? Thanx!

P.S. I very like my nook, but i don't have pleasure always restarting it (~1-2 times per hour)

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

Alex suggested resetting everything which is a pain since I have a nook friend and several hundred books. I'm lucky because I Haven't done shelves or I'd have to redo them and that indo only have 1 nook friend. I'm just afraid to keep having to reset shouldn't have to do that. Mine does it only after using finger swipe for longer than 45 min so it's hard to say if anything is fixed. Just don't want it to get worse. Sounds to me like a software issues but I hear when people report it it's like ingrained in staff to deny it.

I'd just keep watching do what staff states and I think after several times calling they'll replace it if further problems.

Make sure that you keep dust, hair and fuzz off of the screen as these things can interfere with infared screens working properly.

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

I guess IR sensore more often stops workin , in my case, when the enviroment warm/hot. I think that is hardware bug of my unit. But i still hope that future firmware update fix that problem.

I didn't think it would work, but smoooo's solution worked for me!!!

smoooo wrote:

I occasionally get this problem, where it is definitely only the screen that is not responsive, e.g., I press the "n" button and the screen changes to the unlock screen, and I swipe but nothing happens.

My SOLUTION:  I think dust accumulates on the screen and keeps it from registering touches, so I wipe the screen with a cloth and make sure there's no dust wedged in the edges and that usually fixes it.

Sounds like some people have different issues, but hopefully this info helps some others.

Each time I would wake my Nook Touch up, the touch screen would work for about 15 minutes before it would stop responding. I could continue reading using the hardware buttons. I thought it was a software or hardware problem, but couldn't find a fix. Then I read smoooo's post here. My Nook's screen didn't look dirty, but I thought I might as well try to clean it. I got a soft cloth and cleaned the screen paying special attention to the edges around the bezel.

Sure enough, it worked flawlessly for about two weeks, then it started having problems again. I cleaned the screen once more, problem went away once more. So before everyone cries foul and starts returning these in droves, just try cleaning the screen once a week or so. It worked for me.

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

Dust can be a big problem for the Simple Touch.

Remember, it's not a TRUE "touch-screen."  There are sensors around the edge that watch the surface and notice when your finger gets there.  It is NOT actually sensing the touch.

Therefore, dust in the edges blocks the beams and keeps it from seeing your finger.

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

I've had mine a couple days. I have kept it clean and the touch screen will stop responding. The nook button works but it will stay on. I try turning it off completely but doesn't respond.

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

Mine WAS clean. I use a microfiber cloth and had cleaned it the morning before mine froze. Been reading my 20min chunks with no problems. Did not reset it yet.. The ghosting I noticed I went to b&n and their display models had same amount.

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

Got one last week, same problem. Screen stops responding, then the ghosting of the text makes reading all but impossible. Support told me that was supposed to be corrected with software update .1.0.1, which I have. Then they told me to do the factory reset. Big pain in the butt, with shelves and all... but regardless, I tried it. No better.

Now I'm waiting to hear from the 'technical' people. Looks like I might be sending this back for a refund. :smileysad:

Software update 1.1 should become available today (the link is not active yet).

Perhaps this version will solve the screen problem some people are having.

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

I got the 1.1 update and ran into this problem for the first time as soon as the install restarted. Maybe a total coincidence, but it certainly looked related. I read for several short sessions almost every day, usually don't use the screen for more than unlocking. Resets did not help.

But cleaning did! I've got a BN brand screen protector, which very possibly makes this worse by adding some depth and a small cranny around the edges. And the edges looked fine. But I gave one good wipe with an eyeglasses cloth and it immediately started working smoothly. I really like this 2nd edition Simple nook, but this seems to be an inherent glitch with the hardware design. Easy to deal with now that I know the cleaning isn't just for my tastes.

This may be the first cleaning I gave it in almost 5 months, including a few days on beaches. Not unreasonable, but annoying that the fix is not more obvious. I hope it's as simple for you others.

So have you installed the new update?  Did it help with the freezing issue?

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

Hi all,

I had this problem before the update.  I would simply restart the Nook by pressing and holding the power button for several seconds until the screen goes blank.  After reboot, the problem was gone.

I am now running the latest update and have not had a recurrence of the issue.

Happy to report syncing seems to work better and that the text is definitely crisper.

Looking forward to more updates.  I would like to see a web browser as an actual function, even though we can load pages via search function.

Nook on!

Glad to hear the update has helped with this issue.

Just an FYI - you can no longer load web pages via search -  the new update plugged that loophole.

Re: New Nook touch screen stops working

I just started having problems with my touchscreen and thought it might be connected to the recent update -- but dusting it off with a computer screen brush seems to have done the trick.
