No content found in NOOK's My Documents folder

NOOK, 1st Edition

Problems:

1) Digital library books, in pdf and epub formats, are not showing up in NOOK’s My Documents.

2) Personal pdf documents that I have copied and pasted from my computer’s My Documents to the NOOK’s My Documents (while tethered via USB) are not showing up in NOOK’s My Documents.

This is the current status:

1)  Adobe ID/password that is the same as my B & N ID/password.

2)  Adobe Digital Editions loaded on computer.

3)  Computer authorized to use ADE.

4)  NOOK authorized to ADE.

5)  NOOK software version 1.7.0.

6)  When NOOK is tethered to computer via USB, NOOK is recognized by ADE (NOOK shows up as a shelf).

7)  Library books and free sample books can be opened in ADE.

8)  Library books and free sample books all at least have viewing  permission (as per “Item Info”)

9)  When viewing NOOK files from my computer, the library books sample books are NOT found in My Documents; they are visible in the Digital Editions folder.

10)  When viewing NOOK files from my computer, personal documents show up in My Documents.

11)   When trying to find and open books and documents on NOOK, I tap on the following: Library --> My Documents --> Check for new content.

This is what I have done to try to fix the problem:

1)  Uninstalled and reinstalled ADE software (total of 6 times, 2 times were at the request of B & N Tech Support).

2)  Deauthorized and reauthorized Nook (in ADE) by deleting the Digital Editions folder and .adobe-digital-editions folder (total of 6 times, 2 times at the request of B & N Tech Support).

3)  Powered down Nook (too many times to count).

4)  Unregistered and reregistered Nook through B & N (twice)

5)  Manually copy and pasted library and sample books from ADE to NOOK’s My Documents folder (found this suggestion on several forums)

6)  Copy and pasted the Digital Editions folder and .adobe-digital-editions folder into NOOK’s My Documents; several forums say that those two folders should be in the My Documents folder (found this suggestion on several forums)

7)  Checked the manifest file found in the .adobe-digital-editions folder. This is a sample of what I have found:

    1. Purchased B & N books have the following path: <de:localPath relative="true">../my B&N downloads/2940000422939.epub</de:localPath> [No trouble finding or opening these but a folder is designated
    2. Sample ebook: <de:localPath relative="true">Daisy_Miller.pdf</de:localPath> [Note that no folder is designated
    3. Library book:  <de:localPath relative="true">How_to_Shine_at_Work_0001.pdf</de:localPath> [Note that no folder is designated
    4. Personal pdf: <de:localPath relative="true">../my documents/CV_11-16-2011_PDF.pdf</de:localPath> [Folder is designated but still does not show up on NOOK]

8)      Tried the above with different library books, sample books, and personal pdf documents.

I’ve had my NOOK for two years, but I have never tried to load documents or library books. For two weeks I have been combing the forums and talking with tech support to no avail. The only thing I have not done is a factory reset, which I am planning on doing next. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

This usually happens when one of the documents in the My Documents folder is corrupt. This prevents the Nook from indexing the My Documents folder correctly.

Delete all files in the My Documents folder, than "Check for new content" to build a good index.

Now put 1 file in the My Documents that you can be sure is not corrupt.  Not one of your current files. Download a small ePub or PDF file from the Internet. "Check for new content" to index, and the new file will probably show.

Now you will have to find out which of your files are causing the problem.

Re: No content found in NOOK's My Documents folder

Thanks, gertm. I actually have done that, although it didn't make it on my list of things I have tried (oops!). I originally started by downloading 2 digital library books. Took those off as I thought they may be corrupt per some comments I had read on various forums. From that point on, I have only transferred one document (3 different documents), library book (6 different books), or sample book (4 different books) to my NOOK at a time to see if I could find it on my NOOK. I then deleted/removed/returned if it would not work. I can't imagine all of the library books, sample books, and documents I have tried were all corrupt-could they be?
