Nook First Gen can't de-register

Bought a used First Gen on eBay, and of course it can't be de-registered.  (The Nook has been reset, but B&N has it's s/n attached to an unknown person).  They won't clear it out, and they won't email the registered owner.  (And NO, it's not hot.)

So now I can't buy any books for it.  But that's ok, I can still fill it up with books from the library.  Adobe Digital Editions activated it without any problems.

I guess if B&N is not willing to be the go-between to help me out, I just won't be able to buy books from them.

Can you email the sender and ask them to deregister the device?

Turn the nook off and then hold power button for 20 seconds let go for 5 seconds, repeat this process 6 times and then turn nook on. This should force nook to do a factory reset. You should then be able to register when in a wifi area.

This is exactly what probably caused the problem in the first place. If you do not use the deregister option but just do a factory reset, the registration information on B&N's server is not deleted and you will only be able to register the device with the account information it was previously registered with.

Re: Nook First Gen can't de-register

I actually called BN support in the store for a customer with the same exact situation a few days ago which is why I chose to reply to this post. This customer was given the nook by her friend, and this is how I was told to fix the registration issue. It worked. A N1E can only be reset by first unregistering it, and then doing a factory fallback, not by just unregistering and reregistering it. Sometimes you have to ask for a supervisor to get an issue resolved.
