It starts to turn on and it says "Read Forever" then it goes to the black screen with the big grey "n" and then it flashes really quickly and there's a screen that says "Clearing Data. A reset is being performed. This may take a few minutes" I have tried a bunch of times to turn it on but it keeps going back to that. And YES I have tried to just let it run through and let the reset perform but it just turns off, so I turn it back on and it just does it all over again. I just downloaded a new book that I was dying to read and now I can't read it!!

- Have you tried with the reader connected to the recharger?
- Have you counted how many times you tried to start the reader? I gather some models reset to factory settings after a certain number of failed restart attempts.
- Can the file management application on your computer (Windows Explorer "My Computer" if the computer runs Windows) see the virtual disk drive representing your Nook when the reader is connected to the computer? It should work much like a flash/thumb drive.
I don't recall getting a screen with a prominent "Read Forever" or black screen with a big grey "n" on my Nook First Edition (non-3G firmware version 1.7). Are you using the same model and do you remember which firmware version you are running?
I don't know why B&N has a picture of a Simple Touch at the top of this forum, as Simple Touch users have a separate forum on this site (click the "Browse Books Clubs" link above if you want to visit there). Perhaps nobody remembered to change the graphic when the "Book Clubs" stopped combining the eInk models in one forum.
