Re: Nook will not connect to WRT54G Router

It's not the router as I am using the exact same router.  If you are not having problems with your laptop connecting then your router is perfectly fine.

Another setting to check, under Advanced Wireless Settings in the Wireless tab, check to make sure the Authentication Type is set to Auto.  Also, Wireless Network Mode under the Basic settings should be set to Mixed to be on the safe side.

As to your question about blocking anonymous internet requests, that doesn't matter, I have that box checked in my settings also.

One more thing, after trying all of these things, make sure you go into your Nook settings and "Forget" your network, and THEN try connecting it again.

I agree about the Comcast router.  You probably paid a bunch of excess money that you didn't have to by buying from them.  Especially since your router is just fine for your purposes.  I just blew out my current wireless N router with a power outage and had to revert back to my WRT54G and it works just fine.

Merry Christmas!  I hope you get this worked out soon!  You will love the Nook :smileyhappy:

lindajm22 How do you forget your network on the nook? I am not sure how to do this. I am currently connected to a default network that my nook has picked up in my home but it will not allow me to connect to my secured network. Help please!

Hit your Wi-Fi button, then Wi-Fi hotspot, and then click on your network when it populates.  You will see a choice to "Forget".

Re: Nook will not connect to WRT54G Router

THANK YOU DOUG!!!  After 2 days of trying to figure out why my nook wasn't connecting your MAC filtering comment rang a bell and fixed my problem.  I'm sure it's helped other as well.  Thanks again!

Re: Nook will not connect to WRT54G Router

the only choice i have is to connect.  There are other networks that populate that say "not in range remembered" and those have the option to "forget" but not my network.  My network just shows the SSID and the lock symbol.  There are other unsecured networks available that I am able to log on to through my wireless connection but for some reason the nook is not letting me logon to my secured network.

Haven't and won't be getting a router from Comcast...long story.  I'm going to try and upgrade my firmware on our Linksys router. Will keep everyone informed.

Hi. Did updating your firmware on your router fix the problem?

Re: Nook will not connect to WRT54G Router

Doug,

We have the WR54G with a WPA Pre-Shared setting and lots of connection problems for two Nook Simple Touch devices in our household. After following the link in your posting and scrolling down to the diagnostics and suggestions for the WR54G router, I found the following to do the trick:

  • WPA Algorithms should be set to TKIP. This is the normal setting for WPA. I don't know if your NOOK will connect if you set it to AES, which is normally used with WPA2 rather than WPA.

I can tell you that the two Nooks finally connected to the internet the instant I changed from AES to TKIP, suggesting that AES is not a feasible algorithm!

Thanks!
