Re: Nook won't open book

I bought an ebbok last week (Star Corps by Ian Douglas), my Nook says Loading and never goes any further. This is the first time I have had this problem, is there a fix?

Re: Nook won't open book

I tried the most recent instructions involving archiving your book and then reloading it.  IT WORKED !  So happy, thanks

Re: Nook won't open book

@Michael-V

Thank you very much for posting this fix, I was getting very frustrated and couldn't contact customer service, not open on the weekends?

While I appreciate the fix I was wondering if there is going to be a software update to resolve this issue. I'm not one to usually complain but it seems strange that I paid so much for the Nook and have to implement a fix myself in order to read my books.

When it's working I'd say that the Nook is one of the best purchases that I've ever made, however when I want to read something and I'm not able to it's almost not worth it.

Thanks again for the work around.

Re: Nook won't open book

I have one book that wouldn't open so I have read the various remedies with interest. Adding the book to My Documents worked just fine so I havn't been too worried about it but I have tried several of the solutions that did not involve removing the battery or several long complicated steps. Unarchiving and archiving (several times) had no effect. Unregistering and reregistering had no effect. My nook is a recent purchase and came loaded with software 1.2.0 so a software update did not cause the problem.

Today I tried holding down the power button while the book was stuck on "opening your book". The nook went to sleep mode (I did not hold the button down long enough to power off). I went back into my BN Library and tried to open the book. I got a message that I needed to register my nook (it is already registered, but what the heck). I provided the registration information. The message I got said "this nook is already registered". I hit OK. I tried to open the book again and it now opens fine. No further problems on that book or any other book. I don't know if this experience will work for anybody else, but I thought I would share.

Re: Nook won't open book

I have tried this solution and took out the battery and put it back in.  I still can't view my book and it is now stuck on Opening your book where as before it was stuck on loading, the cover shows up but the rest wont.  my other books open fine except this one.  It is part of a series and I was looking forward to reading it.

What can I do to fix this problem.

Re: Nook won't open book

@Tiki21,

If you have tried the solutions previously posted and are still experiencing issues, please call Customer Service to help troubleshoot your unit. You may call toll-free in the United States at 1-800-843-2665. Don't worry, nook is backed by a one year manufacturer's warranty against any mechanical failure. And if you selected the optional B&N Protection Plan at the time you purchased your nook, then your nook is covered for 2-years against mechanical failure, as well as accidental damage.

Re: Nook won't open book

I was getting the "..book wont open error", and in my case I believe it might have been caused by me prematurely opening the book before it completed its download.

If you're getting this error, try this:

On your Nook, tap "My Libary", and highlight the book your trying to open.

Tap "View Item Details & Options".

If you see "Download", then tap "Download" and wait for it to complete downloading.

If you see "Read", then your book has already been downloaded, and you should try the archive method posted on page 2 of this thread.

Re: Nook won't open book

I have had my nook since Feb.  Have had it freeze a few times.  This has been the first time that I could not open a book.  I read all the other messages and tried many of them.  Yours was the only straight forward process and it worked.  Thank you

Re: Nook won't open book

Ok! I just got my download problem fixed by CS. Here is how to solve problem. (At least it solved mine.) plug your nook into your computer and open your drive. Delete the books that will not open, then unplug your nook. Go to your library and touch the book you just deleted it should say next to it download. if it doesn't download right away then you may have to download in 3G or keep trying with wi-fi. I had to use the 3G but once I got on then it downloaded the books and I was able to read them. Good luck!

Re: Nook won't open book

Plug nook into your computer and go to the drive for the nook. Delete the book you are having problems with then unplug your nook from the computer. Go to your library on your nook and bring up the book you just deleted. Next to the book once you bring it up it should read download. Touch the download and it will redownload the book and then say read. If it takes a long time to download or will not download the book try using 3G (I could not get a good connection on wi-fi). Good luck!

Re: Nook won't open book

Ok, I want to try to help anyone out there with this problem, because I literally worked for three hours with this issue, and FINALLY got it straightened out.

Here goes.

First thing. Make sure your WI-FI connected. Go to the nook support/update page where you see the 1.4 or whatever is latest version. (unless you don't have a message on your nook that says update needed). If you need the update, that is most likely your problem.

It's easy to tell, just look at your "settings" area of your nook where it gives you all your information such as PROFILE info, SOFTWARE version. And if it's got anything lower on the version than the 1.3, then your nook won't operate properly.

In my case, I also had to re type my WI FI Network Password/I.D. - that's the 9 digit number on your wi-fi operating module.

Then I went to the downloading site online and clicked on download. Once it was complete, I found it through my search/find file with the key words signed_bravo and it came up. Then I had to open it, keep it open and at the same time plug in my nook with my recharger so that the E. Nook drive was available. **make sure nook is charged up more than 20 percent for it to reboot itself when download is complete.

Once plugged in, you have to drag and drop the update over on top of the E.NOOK drive. So, there should be two windows open (just minimize the one with the update) and use your mouse to drag and drop it so that it basically "absorbs" the new update. Don't unplug your nook because it will automatically download it if it's plugged in. Wait for it to complete, then unplug and your nook should be just left alone to do it's thing. It will become black, then show bars that are uploading, then it will shut itself off and then it will reboot and you should notice you

can now open books and system should operate correctly with new features, etc.

Hope this helps, it's not as easy to understand as it should be in my opinion, but it is what it is, and once you do it, the nook has great new features!

Re: Nook won't open book

I followed the steps and it just says "Opening Your Book"  ... again...constantly.  UGH.  This is brand new a week ago.

What else can I try?

Take it back to your B&N store. If they can't get it to work, they should be able to exchange it. You're still in the 14-day exchange window.

Re: Nook won't open book

Hi Michael.

I have followed the instructions you listed a number of times, but the book in question still is not opening, (although at one point I was able to open and read it, after archiving a number of other books--I had been concerned that perhaps I had too many available books in my library).  It is The Works of Andre Norton. I am not sure what else I need to try to open it, as I had only read about a third of the book.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Nook won't open book

I had a book that wouldn't open and I deleted the one that wouldn't open from my B&N downloads in my nook. I then clicked download in my Nook Library online, then from my nook I opened the book and had to redownload it but it opened for me after that. Hope this helps and wasn't too confusing.

Re: Nook won't open book

I am not happy to see so many others are having probs with downloaded books.

I had purchased Three Seconds and FINALLy had a chance to settle in and read it tonight. I had already downloaded it, saw it in my content, but failed to notice it was only the "teaser" 7 pages.

I went to B&N's page, tried to buy it again and of course I already own it.

I had just updated my Nook to 1.5 earlier today.

This is the first prob I have really had with my Nook after 7 months. Has anyone taken their Nook into a B&N store and received any valid help for issues like these?

Thanks and Good Luck everyone.

Re: Nook won't open book

First make sure all of your upgrades are current. I had this same problem, did all my upgrades, and now I have no problems. I didn't think I had to do my upgrades, that it didn't really make a difference, but apparently it does. Hope this helps you and all others that might have this problem in the future.
