Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Nook won't turn on and won't charge

I have one of the original Nooks and it won't turn on or take a charge. It must still have some charge as the screensaver is on. When I plug it in I am not getting the amber light. It's alway's been a bit tempermental about taking a charge as the connection isn't snug and there is a certain way that it has to be set down for the amber light to go on. But now, the light won't go on at all when I have it plugged in and it won't turn on either.

When the NOOK battery is fully discharged it might take up to 30 minutes before the amber charge light comes on, and then 3 hours after that until the charge cycle is complete.

The fact that you can see the screen saver image is not an indication that the battery still has some level of charge, it just means that the screen saver image was the last thing being displayed when the battery died.

Plug your NOOK into the wall charger and walk away for 30 minutes. If the amber charge light is not on when you return then you might need a new battery (completely discharging a lithium battery might result in it being unable to accept a charge).

Re: Nook won't turn on and won't charge

Thanks. It is still not working after leaving it plugged in. Where/how do I get a new battery and how much will it cost? Just wondering if I should trade up.

Re: Nook won't turn on and won't charge

B&N has it available for about $30.  I suspect that you can find it from about $20 to $40 by searching online for "nook battery."  Your search results may vary...  You might try a B&N store and see if they have a sample battery you can try to see if that is really the problem.

Trading up is a decision you will have to make.  My wife has an N1E and I have a N2E.  If find the N2E more to my liking, she likes her N1E.  Neither of us has seriously played with the Nook Color, but anytime were in a B&N we can always find our son mucking about with one.
