Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Normal Nook behavior?

Since the 1.2 update, my Nook will 'come out' of sleep mode onto a reading page after about 16-18 hrs.  I can power it down & restart.

Also yesterday the battery was at 83% at 4 p.m. yesterday, only 38% this morning at 6 p.m.--no reading.  It was in sleep mode.  Wi-fi on, airplane off.

Does this sound like normal behavior?  Do I need to make some setting changes?  Any suggestions?

Airplane mode should be ON, not off.  Airplane mode turns off the 3G radio.  That preserves battery life.

Turn wifi off. You can also lower the touchscreen brightness(I have mine at 3% brightness) and shorten the time when touchscreen shuts off.

Re: Normal Nook behavior?

I have a/p mode off and wifi on and get several days on a charge without reading.  Maybe up to 10, but I'm waiting to see on the 1.2 update.  you should try letting the battery run down almost all the way before recharging it.  Try this a few times to "condition" the battery and allow the nook to understand the battery charge better.  It needs to learn where full charge and nearly empty are.  If you completely discharge the nook in the process, it will not hurt it, but you'll need to find the instructions for a "frozen nook" on this board.

Check your B&N account  and see if there's more than one copy listed there. If so delete one of them. Then on your nook, have it check for new content. The 2nd copy should be removed.

Instead of deleting, move it to archive.  If something goes wrong, you can always get it back out of the archive.
