Piece of junk

Just tossed my nook. Got sick and tired of the bloody thing not opening books I download from B&N.

What a waste.

Re: Piece of junk

Seriously?! THAT was your solution? Tossing it? Why not offer it to somebody else?

I've had a Nook Classic for almost a year. My daughter has had one for six months. We love it and take it everywhere we go. Never had a problem opening books.

It's your money and you can certainly do what you want but I can't fathom such a waste.

I find it odd that your first and only post is to come on and tell us that you tossed your Nook. Perhaps a better use of your time might have been to search the boards for solutions to the problem you are having.

You buy a device, have problems with it and rather than a posting asking for help, you come in and say you tossed your nook.

What a waste.

Sounds like good troubleshooting to me.  It doesn't work?  Throw it away.  Problem solved.

Why bother posting at all? What a waste!

Pray tell us what happens when you get a flat tire.  Toss the car perhaps?

That is kind of drastic...don't you think?  I just had an issue with my nook (got it 16 months ago and it just froze).  Went to B&N and they were really helpful.  Even though my warranty had expired they extended it and replaced my nook.  Why don't you try that before you toss it?  Or maybe like the others are saying below you are a kindle lurker and just want to stir the pot:-)

Re: Piece of junk

Care to donate it to a worthy cause. I'm sure a kids reading program that would love it and you get a tax write off.

Re: Piece of junk

I understand your frustration with the Nook.  I too thought of tossing it.  But that would be a waste of my sisters gift to me.  I found this B&N Community today and found out a possible solution to my source of frustration.  Hang in there and give it another try.

Re: Piece of junk

Since you're obviously so rich you can throw away your NOOK, please send me $1,000.

Re: Piece of junk

I agree with you what a waste of money, & time.  Had mine for 2 weeks, won't open, spent an hour and a half online with tech support only to be told to send it in and in 3-5 weeks I will get a replacement as they probably have to replace the battery (after 2 weeks? and I probably only used it for 2 hours during that time), but not a new one, a refurbished one with someone elses maybe fixed problems.  You can pay for express replacement, but that means in 4-5 days it will be shipped to you and then you ship yours back.  What a piece of junk from a company that has the poorest business practices I have delt with in a long time.  Their tech support has to look for canned answers to your questions, then cut and paste the reply into the online chat, oh and they can't let you speak to a supervisor.

I would advise anyone and everyone I know to stay clear of the NOOK!

Re: Piece of junk

Got a nook tablet for fathers day, very cool - or so I thought.  Now it's frozen up, nothing online helps, ready to get a refund if they don't fix it right there at B & N store.  You shouldn't release a product till you are sure it will perform on a consistent basis.  Alot of online commenters are dissapointed with it. (Battery Access etc.)  Anyways, I will give it a good fighting chance.  BTW (by the way)  my nook was kept in air conditioning, never dropped, always treated gently like a carton of eggs cause I wanted it to last a long time and is only 2 weeks old.  Starting to get P O'd about it, maybe when he said he tossed it he meant after so many tries at getting it to work and realized it wasn't worth it.  Can't speak for him but he might mean it is on a shelf somewhere gathering dust, who knows?  Thanks for letting me vent.  I was really pumped about getting something like this and then when you do and it turns sour it makes you sad and mad.  Maybe the kindle is better, I was trying to get something cheaper so if it did break or something I' only out  $200 not 300 or 400.

Re: Piece of junk

Try this- if possible remove the battery after turning thr NOOK  off, and then put it back in again. This is equivalent to forcing a reboot. It may help. Most everything I buy now breaks down in a short time. Good luck.

Re: Piece of junk

farce - I wasn't aware they were still selling the N1E in January of 2012.  Did you get a used one by chance, or did you get a different product.

corporalm - try posting your problem on the Nook Tablet (NT) boards.  There are usually lots of people on here willing to help other readers solve any problems they are having.

Re: Piece of junk

I've had similar problems. When I was away from wi-fi in the woods of the Maryland panhandle, I could access the B&N Library but not everything had been downloaded, so that severely restricted my selection. I couldn't get My Documents to open at all. Strangely, when I came back and turned on wi-fi (i.e. turned off Airplane Mode), My Documents came back. This despite the facts that all the My Documents files are on my microcard and don't need to be downloaded from anywhere.

I've been on the verge of changing the battery. Does anyone know whether this is useful?

What I've just done to simplify my life a bit is to dig the epubs and pdfs out of my calibre-type My Documents directory and blast everything else. Then I took some time to go through the list and find all the listings indicating duplicates, faulty metadata or other problems, and made corrections manually (i.e. to the opf file on epubs). Now my Nook is working pretty well, both the B&N and the non-B&N listings (the latter fill several hundred screens).
