Thanks RH,
I stopped by B&N last night and that was the recommendation ... leave the battery out for 20 minutes and then charge for at least four hours. Unfortunately it didn't have any effect.
My nook is still under warranty, but customer service is not offering to replace it for free .... they gave me four options:
1) Refurbished Simple Touch for $30
2) New Simple Touch for $50
3) Refurbished Color for $80
4) New Color for $100
... and return N1E.
No discount for the Tablet.
Any thoughts by anyone? Any experience with refurbished units?
Not sure I want to give up on ebooks with B&N. Especially the few hundred I have acculmulated in less than two years. Still prefer the eInk screen to color. If only we knew what the new nook is going to be this spring.

Since 3G isn't an option on any of the current units, your option is a Wifi product. I love my (refurbished) N2E and without the sticker on the box, I'd never have known it was refurbed. I'd absolutely recommend it.
HOWEVER, if your N1E is still under warranty, I don't think you should have to pay anything toward the replacement. The warranty terms say they'll replace with equivalent product (new or refurbished) at their discretion. Nowhere does the warranty suggest, imply or say outright that any customer will be charged something for their warranty replacement.
Before you accept their terms, I'd suggest PMing Alex_BN. He might be able to help you with this situation.
