Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Reading Without Registering?

My husband brought me a Nook Touch home tonight from Staples. I'm trying to check it out, but we don't have wi-fi in our home. I got the Nook for library books and books I already have.

Anyway, with no wi-fi, I am stuck on the "Choose a Network to Use" screen. Is there anyway to get out of this screen and add my own books to it, so I can at least check out the features tonight, until I can get to a wi-fi hotspot to register it properly?

No, I am sorry.  The N2E has to be registered in order to be used.  You will have to take it to a B&N store or another place with free WiFi in order to register it, like Starbucks or McDonalds.

Re: Reading Without Registering?

I copied this information from the XDA-developers forum. I have no idea if this really works, but you can give it a try:

  1. Enter the Factory Screen by holding the TOP RIGHT Button and slide your
finger across the top of the Nook from left to right. A button labeled "Factory"
will appear in the top left of the screen.
  2. Once in the Factory screen, hold down the TOP RIGHT Button and tap in the
    bottom right of the screen.
  3. A new button will appear labeled "Skip Oobe". Tap that and you're
    done!

Wow.  Please let us know if this works.

It did work, thanks. Now I can at least play around with it until I get around to registering it. If it doesn't get easier to use, its' going back to the store.

It's pretty easy to use once it's registered.  I registered mine at Starbucks.  It took less than a minute to do.
