Stuck checking for new content

I have 2 tablets and 1 gen 1 but my generation one is stuck on the looking for new content the tablets download it alright.  Is there any help out there on how I can fix this?

I'm having the same problem with my 1st Edition 3G.   I was stupid enough to unregister and re-register and this only made matters worse.  Now the downloading B&N content is grayed out; there are no books on the reader and I consistently get thrown back to the Home Screen after 1-2 minutes.
