Survey coupon code -- how to apply it?

I just took a B&N survey all about the ebook buying experience.  My reward is a 15% off coupon for bn.com. 

 

But, I can't figure out how to apply it to an ebook purchase.   Is this a limitation due to the Agency 5 thing, or am I missing something obvious?

 

If I'm missing something obvious:

* The coupon code doens't work as a Gift Certificate

* When I hit the "buy now" button on an ebook, it says that it will first apply Gift Certificates and then charge my card.  No way to enter the coupon code that I can see.

 

If it's a restriction, then the survey should have included the question "Does it strike you as ironic that the coupon we give you for this survey about buying ebooks can't be used to buy an ebook?" :-|

There are no discounts on NOOKs or e-books at B&N.

Just tried it on a cover -- it's not valid.

 

"iii) not eligible for purchases of the following products and services: Barnes & Noble Memberships, Gift Cards, Gift Certificates, gift-wrapping, textbooks, digital content (including but not limited to digital books, magazines, and periodicals), nook(TM) and related accessories"

 

Clearly I'm no worse off than before I took the survey, but it is irksome to be offered a reward like this:

 

"You've been selected to help us improve our wonderful new product.  Join the excitement!  As a reward, we'll give you a discount that doesn't apply to anything related to that product." 

 

And, a questionable marketing decision.
