Hi
I have been dealing with customer service for 3 weeks now and am currently on my fourth nook trying to get it to download my library. I have done everything the techs on the phone have told me to do and was told today that there is nothing else they can do to help me resolve this issue. I cant get my money back and all they keep telling me to do is side load into my documents. If I do that then I cant see the covers of the books in the touch screen. What good is that???? I bought them through B&N I should be able to read them on the nook. B&N advertises the nook will hold 1500 books, well I'm at 950 and it wont! I turn to you guys for help. Maybe you will know to do something they don't. I have archived off down to say 350 books, with 5something in archive. Nook wont download. I have unreg. and re-reg. I have reset factory settings by way of button on touch screen AND the hold the power button down 6 times for 20 sec. each time. Its got a excellent wireless connection in the house. I have 4 bars for the 3g. It looks like its looking for the books and cant find them. I have tried changing my account name and password using another email account and going through steps again. Not working. I tried taking off all but one credit card (which cust svc said I shouldnt have more than one or two on the account because it confuses nook???) that doesnt make sense. One is the default. Anyway that didn't work. I've tried turning on and off all the way. nothing. I've even taken off all the samples I had loaded because they said that could be a problem. I've set it at hide the archived books and that wont work. The other thing it keeps doing is it goes to sleep after 2 min and I mean to sleep back to the author screensaver. I can't stay online looking for content at b&n because it keeps shutting down back to list of what catagories to choose (books, mags, newsp. etc). I thought if I stayed online looking at least it would still be connected and maybe finally find my library. NOTHING WORKS!!! AGH!!!
The last thing I can think of is to print of my wish list which is large and delete it. Maybe that will help? I don't know how that could have anything to do with it though because I think I have to access b&N to look at it right? Micro mem card being installed didn't help either. Thought maybe if it had more memory it would help. NOT.
The other thing to note is I went out and bought a pandigital ereader which is in association with B&N and it downloaded my library of over 500 books within a few min. Why is it that will do it but the nook wont.?? and it doesnt have 3g just wireless internet in the house???
I think I covered everything I'm extremely frustrated and upset at this point. I have alot of money invested in this thing and it was a xmas gift and to have it not work is very upsetting. Not that customer service understood. I think they're sick of me and pretty much washed their hands of me today. At this point and unless I get this working, I will not recommend a nook to anyone!!
I hope you guys can help.
Will check back tomorrow.
Thanks

I am having a bit of trouble following what your problem is.
As I understand it now you cannot get 950 eBooks into the B&N folder?
Or is it that nothing will download?
The 1500 eBook estimate is based on an average size of 1mb per eBook. It also assumes you have nothing but eBooks on that drive.
Most of my eBooks are under 1mb but a few are pretty large. One is about 20MB.

Kind of hard to sort through that huge paragraph, but you're saying that you have over 950 e-books in your B&N library, right?
As I understand it, there are problems with wireless synchronization of huge numbers of B&N e-books (I've heard maybe 350 or more). The rumors suggest that maybe there's a timeout that kicks in, where the software thinks that synchronization shouldn't take this long and gives up. That's all rumor, and I can't vouch for the correctness of any of it.
If it is a timeout problem, it might work better with Wi-Fi than 3G, because Wi-Fi is usually a lot faster. That's just speculation, but it's something to try.
An easy one: you can adjust the sleep time from 2 minutes to 20 minutes in Settings>Display.

There is way too much going on in your post. For example:
"hold the power button down 6 times for 20 sec. each time"
Sounds like you were trying to revert to an older firmware version, or install 1.4
--------------------------------------------------
"changing my account name and password using another email account and going through steps again."
Sounds like a problem registering the NOOK.
--------------------------------------------------
"I can't stay online looking for content at b&n because it keeps shutting down back to list of what catagories to choose (books, mags, newsp. etc)"
Sounds like you are having a problem Shopping on the NOOK.
--------------------------------------------------
The first thing to do is open the settings window and determine what firmware version your NOOK is currently using.
It should be ver 1.4.
Is there one or two pages in your settings window?
It should be two pages.

I have the exact same problem. I hope someone can help. I had to return my nook and get a new one because it broke where the page turn arrows are. I have about 1300 books in my account and it just won't download them to the nook.

Not that I have any firsthand experience with this, but... Doug suggests that part of the problem may be the size of the library you are trying to download. Could you try archiving the vast majority of them, and only unarchive them about 100 at a time?

The problem lies in the Nook programming and there is simply nothing you or B&N support can do for you until the problem is resolved with forthcoming updates (if ever).
I know this because I have 4,160 books in my account (yes, four thousand and no, most are not free, I spent apx. $9,000+ on these books and still can't get my problem resolved just like yourself) and I have gone thru this problem with support much further than you (including a new Nook which needed to be replaced anyway due to cracked button).
The problem is not the storage available on Nook for your books as Nook only automatically downloads newly acquired books (in my experience up to about 2-3 days old) or five newest books if there was no new purchases in past few days.
The 2 minutes to sleep (or title/main screen) problem you are experiencing is because your Nook times out and gives up on trying to download your library LIST. The problem you are experiencing starts for most people after they acquire apx. 600+ books but it is kind of random. Farthest I have been able to go is 1250 items. Archiving does not work because even tho you archive the books the information about them is still being downloaded to Nook whether the book itself is or not. Hiding archived items does not help as hiding is done locally on Nook.
So here is what the problem is: Nook tries to download the library information for your 950 items. Each item has a title, each item has a cover, each item has a description, etc. All of this is being downloaded to Nook and due to programming issue Nook times out and sort of "resets" itself. With my 4160 item library just the LIST (metadata) for all of these items could probably take easily 100MB+ (well, maybe that is an exaggerations, but you get the point). Nook is simply not capable of dealing with this much data at this time.
This needs to be fixed, period, as more and more people will start having their libraries go into hundreds soon enough and then this will become wide spread problem that may actually greatly hurt Nook success.
This issue also appears with newest Nook PC Reader (at least with my 4160 items), however the old version works fine (albeit it takes a while to check/update content) and that is what I now use to download/archive my books and then I simply drag/drop them to Nook from PC Reader directory as I read them. I suggest this is the best way for you to proceed, with your 950 items the new reader should work fine (my quit at apx 3500, so I had to get the old one).
To summarize: this is a PROGRAMMING issue that needs to be fixed in next updates (hopefully very next one). Perhaps by not downloading all the information about an eBook (ie no cover and description until item is accessed and then downloading it on demand for those with large libraries).
P.S. I have been told my library is the largest. In fact, while the support tried to access my transaction history it crashed their computers! After many weeks of going thru support/content/engineering departments my case was forwarded to engineering/programming teams. If they will be able to fix it for me, there is hope for you yet.
I also stopped spending large amount of money with B&N until this is resolved and basically just buy very cheap or sale or to complete series.
Also last note: If you have access to or can borrow and old Nook with 1.0 or 1.1 software revision it MAY (just may) be able to access your library. Some people with this problem had success by going back to old software but you cannot do that if your Nook is one of the newer hardware revisions as those need V1.3 or 1.4 to works properly. So don't try it at home or you may brick your Nook.
P.P.S. On another note, to avoid my Nook from "resetting" itself every 2 minutes I keep it permanently in airplane mode. Sideloading will be your friend with this problem. First time you open your books it will ask for your name and CC info then it should remember it. Just side load your books that you download using Nook PC Reader (or from your library page using browser) to My Documents folder.

Wow. That's... a remarkably frustrating situation. I really hope that they can get this sorted out for you guys. And as the NOOK is around for longer, and more people build their libraries, it's going to affect more and more people...

Thanks for the input. Glad to know its not just me. It is the newest version.1.4 so guess cant go backwards. This problem was supposed to be fixed with this update. Most of my books are purchased too. Just a very frustrating thing. I don't know why they advertise it can hold 1500 books when it cant. Looks like false advertising or wishful thinking on their part. I did side load to documents 100 books but then got thinking - how does the nook know which ones are side loaded and which ones are waiting to be downloaded? I wouldn't think it would be able to tell. I'll keep working on it.
Will check back later.
Thanks again
Susan

The Nook won't know because the My Documents side and the B&N library side are completely separate. If you have a B&N book sideloaded into My Documents but not downloaded in your B&N library, it will only be available through My Documents. If you tried to read it from the B&N Library side, it would need to download it -- it wouldn't know that the book is already in My Documents.
