I have done this and my wife may be able to read the book on her nook color for a few weeks and then it asks again for the name and creit card.  It does this sometimes the next day sometimes a month later.

Well there is something wrong with your Nook then. It should only ask for it once  for each credit card used. If the Nook is unregistered then you have to reenter it.

Re: Two Nook Household

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the info, I just purchased a second NC my spouse.  So, can you explain how I can determine the name of the books to move from one NC to another? I can find the downloaded books in the BN Download/Books folder. But what I see are long numbers with the epub extension.  I can't figure out the book titles so am stuck in the effort to move books to the second NC. Thanks.

Look at he jpeg file associated with the epub file and dbl click on the jpeg it will open and show the book cover then match the numbers.

Re: Two Nook Household

I tred to copy a book from a N1E to a N2E.  Finally got the book on there but when I tried to unlock the book with my CC info (and it is the only CC I have ever used for B&N), The CC info screen just stayed there and wouldn't unlock the book.

Has anyone else had this type of problem?

Thank you.

The numbers are the thirteen digit ISBN for the book

If possible, download the books to your computer using Nook for PC instead of directly downloading from the website.  Nook for PC will give you a more readable file name.  Absent that, as was previously stated, it is the ISBN number, which you should be able to look up.

Re: Two Nook Household

I was going to add my Mom to my account so we could share, but the option of sideloading shared books instead sounds fine. So I tried it. Problem is, she's in Florida and I'm in NJ, so I'm trying to talk her through the process over the phone, and, to be honest, she's not all that great with the Nook keyboard. Fortunately I can remotely control her PC, so I was able to move the file to the right place on her Nook, so I know that's right.

The confirmation stage with entering name and cc# failed.

I cannot reproduce it on my Nook, b/c I don't have anyone to share a file with me.

But to try to help her, I have these questions:

She needs to enter first name and last name. These are the names from my B&N account, not my credit card, right? Is it case sensitive? I'm pretty sure she didn't do capital letters, could that be the problem?

Thanks for any help!

Name - I believe it is the name on the B&N account, not the credit card, I would have her try it using B&N account name first, and if that doesn't work, try the name on the credit card.  It shouldn't be case sensitive but, I suppose it could be.

Make sure she is inputting the credit card number correctly.

Also, it needs to be the Name and credit card number that was on the account when the book was downloaded, so if you've changed credit cards, maybe that is a problem?

I understand your pain with your mom.  I'm in CA, mom's in WA state, and does well with technology, as long as she has very specific instructions.  I also remote in to her computer, but that doesn't help with the Nook.  I was thinking of setting us up on Skype so I could watch what she was doing.  Right now, we can't get the Nook to connect to her WiFi and I've tried everything thing I can from far away.  Fortunately, I'll be up there next week.

Good luck with your mom and hope you figure it out.

If you login to your B&N account (on the B&N website), and go to your B&N library, on top of the page you see the unlock information needed to unlock your books.

It is the name on your B&N account.

Re: Two Nook Household

SOLVED!

It's NOT the name on my B&N account. It's the name on my credit card.

I have Theresa as the first name on my cc, but Terri as the first name on my B&N account.

When I have my mom enter Theresa as the first name, it unlocked

Yipee!

Mine is the name on my account which is different than my credit card. So I don't know how that worked.

But that is good that it worked.

Re: Two Nook Household

Weird. Well, maybe the lesson is that if one name doesn't work, try another.

Re: Two Nook Household

I have read through all of this thread (great info!) and saw the question asked about whether it is possible to have the book covers show in place of the generic gray ones. I did not see an answer posted. Is it possible? Thank you.

Re: Two Nook Household

My wife and I just purchased the new e-ink touch screen Nooks and we have two seperate accounts as recommended. I recently purchased a book via the store on my Nook and then went to copy to her Nook. I plugged my Nook into my computer to try and locate the Nookbook I just purchased on my Nook and it is no where to be found. How is everyone copying books from their Nooks to other family members Nooks?

You need to download the books from the website to your computer.  The easiest way to do this is to download Nook for PC, sync your library and download the books.  They'll be in a folder on your computer in \Documents\My Barnes & Noble eBooks\your email address.  (Or My Documents, if you XP, not sure the exact location in Vista)

You can't get to the B&N books directly on the N2E, the are in a hidden location.

Re: Two Nook Household

My wife purchased a NC and we set up an account for her.  I then purchased a separate NC and I think se up another account, and bought one book.  Now I would like to read some of her purchased books/newspapers.  I called NC Technical Support to figure out how to do this but only got someone who suggested I erase and deregister my NC and register under my wife's email, thereby losing the one book I had purchased.  I tried this but somehow ended up exactly where I started, with my NC registered to my email and my wife's registered to her email.

I suspect I did something wrong, but actuallyt I did not really want to join her account anyway, so just as well.  Can anyone suggest how I can share books/newspapeer purchased under my wife's account?  Nook Friends beta does not appear to work at all.  It seems silly that two people living together and sharing the same CC to buy books can't read each others items (I guess we could always swap devices, but that is not what we really want to do).

Any suggestions welcome.

You need to download the books from her account to your computer and sideload to your Nook.  The first time you try and open a book, it will ask for the name and cc number on her account.  It doesn't store it on the Nook, just verifies the encryption key.  There's a post on the first page of this thread that explains it, this link "should" take you right to that post.  If not, look for a post by Doug_Pardee, he explains it very well.
