Re: Two Nook Household

If you are talking about B&N content it will transfer automatically if both nooks are on the same account.

But if each nook is on a different account, then you will have to hook up the nooks to your computer.

This is explained in the manual and also the video tutorials under "Sideloading".

When you transfer a book purchased from B&N to another nook, (Drag and drop via your computer), it goes into My Documents on the target machine,  not the normal My B&N documents folder.

When you open this book, the first time, it will ask for the credit card number it was purchased with.  You will only have to do this once for each nook.   That card will be remembered for future intra-nook transfers.

Ok, help... I transferred a book over to one of my kids' Nooks, BUT the credit card I bought it with is old and now closed. I don't have the number anymore. Am I out of luck?

Re: Two Nook Household

It doesn't need to be current or valid card for this operation. It is just used as a decryption key (password) for that book. You must have a record of what that old number was somewhere. Worst case : archive the book from your nook, then, unarchive it to get a new copy encrypted with your current card.

Re: Two Nook Household

What cord do you use to hook the nook up to the computer, I think that's where I am confused.

Re: Two Nook Household

The only cord that came with the nook. It's pretty hard to confuse a choice of ONE. And the manual is in the my library section on your nook.

er... um... to clarify that, (because I do know people who could be confused at this point :smileysurprised:), take the power cord that came in the NOOK box, and pull off the adapter that plugs into your wall outlet.  This is the end of the cord that you plug into one of the USB ports on your computer.

Sorry if you already knew that, but like I said, I know people who would think this is just a strangely designed power cord.

Right.

Because nobody ever thought of such a cord+Charger combination before.

And since the cord and charger arrive in the box plugged together (*COUGH*) some might not know that they come unplugged so that you could use the cord separately.

And this wasn't mentioned at all in the Quick start Guide

Or in the contents listing on the side of the box ...

Quick Question

Will this work if I want to share magazine or newspaper subscriptions?

Thanks,

Will WHAT work?

If they are on the same account, then probably yes, subscriptions will download to each I believe.

If you are talking about dragging content from one Nook to the other, you will tire of that very quickly, so even if it did work, it wouldn't be a solution.

Re: Two Nook Household

Thanks for the help... I figured out the cord issue once i posted asking the question.  Sorry I'm not as brilliant as some on the boards, but I hadn't investigated the cord enough to realize it was both usb and power...

Re: Two Nook Household

I have tried this and it works, but I have a problem.   My Mom and Sister both have Nooks and we each use different credit cards. We share books, we live in the same house.  I put the credit card info for mom's book in and it works fine.  But if I then sideload my sisters book it will not remember that cc number. Do you need to put the cc number each time you read a book?  It seems like the nook only remembers 1 Credit card number at a time.

I have sideloaded NOOK books from both my husband and daughter's accounts onto mine without problem. It asked for the cc# the first time with each and that's all.

Re: Two Nook Household

Thanks for the help.  Do they both have differenet card #'s?

If I read one of mom's and then put one of sister's in and go back to mom's it wants the card info all over again.

We each have a different credit card. His, mine and hers. Maybe try to delete the sister's books, then load again? Not sure why you are having this issue.

And if you give it Mom's, and go back to Sister's book, does it ask for that card again as well?

If so, it would sound as if B&N figured out this little ploy, and decided it would only remember two cards.

Also what software version are you using? and what model of nook.

Well clearly it holds your own CC and at least one other, so that makes two by my count.

The Jury is still out as to wether it will hold more than two.  Haleakala_LKB reports that it works for her.

I've only got two nooks in house, and two CC#s in each.  Have not tried with three.

After reading this discussion,  I wondered if maybe something had changed, So I tried it again last evening. OPened a book from my daughter's account then a book from my husband's. Didn't ask for a cc# either time,. Then went back to reading a book downloaded on my account from B&N. All 3 different credit cards.
