I've had my Nook since it was originally released and have had no problems with it beyond the cracked bezels. Now I'm worried that it's reaching the end of its life...
Everything seems to work, I have no problem connecting with 3G or wifi, I'm getting no error messages; however, I recently started having problems with it updating the library (new books weren't appearing), so after much frustration and failed fixes I wiped my nook clean and reset everything.
When I went into my B&N Library it lists no books and it automatically searches for new content. The problem is that it continues to search until it automatically goes to sleep, even when I tap it to keep it from going to sleep I've had it searching for new content for over an hour with no success. I went back in and went several rounds with powering off completely, unregistering, resetting to factory settings, and nothing has helped. I do have close to 2K ebooks for it to recognize and update into my nook library - I don't know if this is too much for it to handle for an older ereader (though I hope not! I don't want to upgrade) or if it's a problem that's fixable.
I apologize if this is a duplicate, I found similar problems revolving about network connectivity but mine hasn't been displaying an error message or working on alternative networks. For the time being I have been downloading to the computer and sideloading but it's aggravating inputting my CC info for each book ![]()

A few weeks ago I had problems getting my WiFi only Nook First Edition to download new B&N content, but the problems cleared up after shutting the reader completely down and restarting it. This was not the "sleep mode" that displays the wallpaper images (author woodcuts by default) but the full shutdown that results from holding the First Edition's power button for 20 seconds. The problem recurred a few times, but hasn't reccured for a few weeks. I'm wondering if B&N had a problem with the servers at their end.
Have you tried instalig B&N's reader software on your computer and using it to syncronize with your Nook account and download backups of your B&N eBook purchases? I've downloaded eBooks with the Windows version multiple times without reentering cc information.

My daughters nook is also constantly checking for new content, she is not getting books I purchase for her instantly or even in 24 hours once it took 4 days for it to show up on her nook. We have completely shut it down, reregistered it, took out the battery......you name it. (She is 16 so until I found this post I figured it was just something she did to it.)
I hope this problem can be fixed it is very frustrating for it to check for new content for hours at a time when you want to read a book that has been part of the content for over a year.
