Update Not Installing Automatically

I tried searching for this but didn't find anything.  I have a first gen nook.  It says that the update should begin to download automatically when I connect to wifi, but it doesn't.  I manually installed the update already, but why did it not download automatically?  The internet's working fine on my nook because I tested it using the web browser.  I read for about 25 minutes while connected to wifi because I was like "Oh, maybe it just needs some time," but no, it did not work.  Any idea how to fix this?  Thanks!

I have always had the same problem with mine. I got it for Christmas and it was running v1.4 and the 1.5 update had just come out. I had to sideload it to get it on. When v1.7 came out I kept waiting for it to automatically update but it never did. I had to sideload that as well. Everything lese about the WiFi works fine so I don't know what it is on some models. It seems that there are many others on the boards who also have to sideload.

Mine has always updated automatically, from 1.1 right up to the 1.6 update.  However, it still has not updated to 1.7, but I'm not going to worry about it right now.

My nook3G didn't update automatically to 1.5, skipped 1.6 but went perfect on 1.7.  My wife's nook wifi still hasn't decided it want the 1.7 update yet.

No auto update here either.  Side loaded 1.7 OK, but I've never had the wi-fi method work.

Wonder why some do and some don't.
