Updates take a day to accomplish

[ Edited ]

Whenever there is an update, my nook cycles through downloading the updated, installing, I connect to wifi and register, then it downloads, installs, I connect and register, etc.  Last night it started updating (I had not turned it on for several days), and it's still going.  I have connected and registered 6-7 times this go around, still going.

This happens each time there is an update.  Tech support has told me just to keep going until it's finally done, and each time it has eventually stopped and I can use my Nook again.  Usually most of a day to accomplish.  I'm just wondering if anyone else experiences this.  An update taking several hours minimum seems like a long time.

Thanks for any insight,

Paul

I think you may be on the wrong board. This is the NOOK 1st Edition board. There hasn't been an update for N1E since last June, and no more are expected.

No, I definitely have the 1st Edition wi-fi.  I'm not sure what gets it started, but every few months or so it happens.  I can work through it, but I'm worried that one of these days, it will never recover.  It has actually stopped now, I can use it again.

If anyone has ever heard of this, please chime in.

Just curious, what version did it update to?

It's at version 1.4.0.  I don't really know what it was doing, as I'm sure it was at this version already.

The thought occurred to me to look at what files are there in Windows Explorer.  I did find a file called signed_bravo_update-delta-1.5.0-release.dat, which is empty.  Anyone know if that means anything?

Get rid of it. You shouldn't have any of those update files left on your NOOK after the update is finished.

Re: Updates take a day to accomplish

After my last post, I went and looked at the Nook updates page, and followed the instructions to update to 1.7, which went very smooth.  It now shows 1.7 as the current version.

Hopefully this is the end of it, I appreciate the responses.  It seems like for some reason, updates were not completing properly.  It was a simple question to ask what version it updated to, but that's what got me thinking about it.  Thanks again.
