Weirdness.

[ Edited ]

First off...my nook is connected to my network and allows me to purchase a book but when I tap on the "check for new B&N content" to download the book I just purchased to my nook, as well as the ebook that someone lent to me, it says that the network is unavailable and to make sure I have network connectivity.  Confusion sets in.

Then I go to the B&N Desktop reader to see if I can get the ebook to download there, no such luck, it still has my library at 66 books...when I know it should be 68.  Not only that, but my entire library goes from 66 books to 0 before my eyes.  Confusion and bewilderment!

So, I go to my iTouch and lo and behold, the ebook that someone lent me as well as the ebook I purchased.  I look in my library here on B&N and the books are there. Confusion, bewilderment and relief!

So, tell me Nook gurus...what in the Wide, wide world of sports is going on????

BTW...I love my nook and I want to read those books on my nook!  Accept no substitutes!!

Peace!

Finally my nook updated "The Daily"

which it hasn't done since 6-28-10....so I figured everything was okay.

But when I "Check for new B&N content" it still says "Network Unavailable" AND my library on the B&N Desktop Reader is still at 0, when it should be at 74 with 68 ebooks and 6 samples, which is what it is at B&N online and on the B&N reader on my iTouch.

The fact that I was able to buy as well as borrow a book using the nook tells me I'm connected to my network but the books don't show up on the nook.

Frustrating.

More and more users are reporting this problem.  You should call Customer Service at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665), option 2 for Digital Support.  Please come back and let us know what they say.  Good luck!  :smileyhappy:

They have to replace my nook.

I was on the phone with the tech guy (Ben, I think) for almost an hour.  We did pretty much everything [disabling Wi-Fi, unregistering, rebooting, deleting my CC on BN and then adding it] and still it kept saying "Network Unavailable"...even though I was able to go to Google.  I decided on the quick send, so hopefully I'll have my new nook by this weekend or at least the beginning of next week.

I don't know what the deal was, but at one point in time it said my library was completely empty...just like on the B&N Desktop reader...but I look online and I see all my ebooks AND something is taking up space on the nook that it brought it down to 1.28 GB.  So I will start with a new nook.

Tomorrow is another day!

Thanks for letting us know, this appears to be one of the most common problems post 1.4...

Yep.  Every day that maintenance release to 1.4 looks more and more like a necessity, doesn't it?

"Network unavailable" errors in b&m store

I have also recently gotten the "network unavailable" error when connected to the B&N in-store wi-fi.  It happened last weekend when I was trying to open the in-store promotions, and then again today when I was trying to read in store.  I wonder if this is in any way related to the OP's problem.

Both times, it eventually connected (although I was not able to read in store today, but I gave up trying after a couple of times -- oddly, I was able to refresh my B&N content, including My B&N Library and the Daily), and I chalked it up to wi-fi connection problems in the store.  It may also have happened when on 3G, but I don't recall the circumstances.  In any event, mine is working fine on 3G now.

Re: Weirdness.

I have had the same problem, even in a B&N bookstore?  My solution was to completely power-off the device (hold down power button for a few seconds), and then re-start.  Wireless then works like a charm.

A pain, but so far, the Nook plusses far outweigh the minuses.

Re: Weirdness.

You mentioned 2 problems 1) Network not available. 2) Books available in you Library on line but not appearing and in fact disappearing from your readers, desktop, nook etc.

Not sure if the network problem is connected, however, you mention the missing book issue started when you tried to access a lent book. I had a simiialr issue with my books disappearing from my devices awhile back (right after 1.3 launch) and it was all down to a book that I had tried to lend to someone. It took weeks but finally CS got it fixed and my books and my Check content work flawlessly.

Make sure that when you talk to CS for trouble shooting they are aware that there is a lent book involved. I'm not convince this problem has ever been fixed as I'm not willing to try the lend me feature again.

I wish I read this before I sent my nook off for a replacement!

Because you were right!  I got my replacement nook today and it was doing the same thing as my previous nook and so I returned and then deleted the "borrowed" book and my nook updated, easy peasy!
