Battery Issue After Update. - Nook HD

Status: Under Review

Posted else where but was told to post here.

I just install the new update a couple of days ago and now my nook HD doesn't seem to hold a charge.  It will pop up that my battery is critically low with no prior warning while actively reading.  Turned off wi-fi thinking maybe that was the issue.

What I am also noticing is a plug it in.  And within a few minutes I have a charge of 44% or better.  Even when it charges fast it doesn't charge that fast.  So I unplug and within an hour I'm back to critically low.

I know I'm a heavy user especially while off of work for two weeks but it would go all day even with heavy wi-fi use without going dead.  This morning I unplugged it.  Headed to church.  Had no one in my nursery so I was reading and within 90 minutes getting the critical low battery.

It seems like the update is either doing something in the background that is killing the battery or that somehow the true battery capacity is no longer being read correctly.

Anyone else having these issues.  I have the warranty and not sure if I should be calling this in or not.

The problem is I get no warning just a critically low battery warning.  So I quick turn it off if I'm away from home or plug it in if I'm at home.  Then suddenly has has 50% battery so clearly the battery isn't drained it just is having some weird glitch.  Last night I read my nook for several hours in a row just like in the past, plugged it in before bed.  Got up this morning, unplugged, and in 51 minutes I got the ciritical battery warning.  I plugged it in and then looked at the battery usage in settings and I had 49% battery.  I'm very frustrated with this update.

Also have some glitchy stuff with a couple of apps.  Try to open File Digger and Overdrive opens.

Hope it gets reupdated soon because you can't take it back to before the update.

Still hoping to get some company response that at least they are aware of the problem and looking into steps to solve it.  I am not the only person having this problem because I've seen others post about it as well.

I am having this same issue.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I am also having this issue.  Significantly reduced battery life after the 2.2.0 update, and also erratic battery charge readings (e.g. going from 4% up to 17% whilst using the device, then after being in sleep mode for a while the reading was 45%.  All while unplugged.)

I am having the same problem. I am not sure exactly when it started, but I noticed it sometime over the Christmas holidays. At first, I assumed, since traveling, that it was acting funny because of searching for wifi or weak wifi, so it didn't bother me much. When I got back home after New Year's, I noticed the battery was behaving really erratic. In the past, it seemed like I could read forever and never had to worry about the battery, just topping it off in the evenings. Now, it says its full, then it says its critically low a few minutes later. Plug it in, and then it says its 70% (or whatever seemingly random numbers). I also had days where no matter how long I kept it plugged in, the battery charge would not go above 64%. I had wondered if the battery was going bad, even though I bought the nook less than a year ago, and that was just the new capability of it. But then, it started charging back to 100 again and back to random ups and downs.

Me too. I have App Killer, brightness turned down to below 25%, Power Save on, and three times just tonight the battery will crash from 60-70% down to 0. Critical Warning pops up, I plug in then battery level pops back up to 60 within a minute. Device Info says that my Screen is what is using most power, usually 30%. android, media server, chrome etc using less than 7% each. Annoying. I wanted the versatility of a tablet so I chose the hd+ over its competition but using apps makes the battery crash....kinda. Please don't say u get what u pay for.

I am also having this problem. It started 2 days ago. It will say and show 70% charged and 20 minutes later will flash "Critically Low" and power off. I will plug into charge and battery will say 65%, but will not stay on unless it is connected to charger. I will leave plugged in and charge fully, and the process repeats. It will not run more than 45 minutes before powering off. I do not watch movies on it, just use for reading and basic internet. I have power save on as well as screen brightness turned down.

I am also having the same issue.  I am out of warranty and customer service rudely informed me there was nothing they could do. They told me to go around to B&N stores in my area and HOPE that they have a trade in program.

I am having the same issue.  It started some time aroundthe holidays and has been getting progressively worse.  At first it would happen about when the battery was registering at 20-25% and now I'm lucky if I get to 70%.

It is the same symptoms as reported by the original poster.  The nook hd will show a charge and suddenly the critically low charge warning pops up and the nook will die if you don't get it plugged in right away.  As soon it is plugged in the charge indicator returns to where it was before dropping to zero.

Welcome to the NOOK Issue Reporting exchange. Post your issue and come back later to check its status, as well as commentary from myself and BN developers. - Alex
