Nook Simple Touch Skipping Ahead Pages

Status: Open

Does anyone else have issues with their Nook Simple Touch skipping ahead 100+ pages sometimes when turning the page forward?  This happens to me quite frequently.  BN advised me to de-register my Nook and that did not resolve my issue.

Any ideas?  This is super frustrating! :smileymad:

There is a bit of dust or such stuck in the edge of the screen.

The NST isn't really a touch-screen.  It has sensors in the gutter around the edge that watch the surface.  When your finger gets really close, the sensors spot it and count it as a "touch."

Blow around the edges or use a qtip (don't use any liquid, you don't need it and it may damage the unit) to clear out anything that's there.

My NST does that every so often (like, last night) and it's always some pet-hair or such that's driffted by, lodged in the screen, and must look like a really big finger quickly tapping the screen.

And, yes, it's stupid that someone hasn't added this to the list of "things customer service needs to ask you to do BEFORE having you deregister."

I've occassionally had that problem, and like Byteguy said it's usually because of something stuck on the edge of the screen.

Hi and thanks for your responses.  I've tried all the things you suggested and it still does it.  It's very frustrating and BN support doesn't seem to know about it or knows what to do other than say de-register and start over.  Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced this issue then.  Maybe it's time to upgrade to the Glowlight one then?  :smileyhappy:

Do you use the buttons on the sides much?  Is it possible one of them is sticking?  Maybe the next time it happens, try one of the buttons that makes the page go back and see if it stops it.

This also happens to both my Nook Glow and my mom's ST.  I usually (90% of the time) use the page turn buttons to change my page.  The only thing that stops the pages from speeding forward is hitting the page back button.

It happens at least once a book, but usually more often.

Any ideas... besides taking them in to the store?  It has to be a common issue if both my eink devices are doing it.

Welcome to the NOOK Issue Reporting exchange. Post your issue and come back later to check its status, as well as commentary from myself and BN developers. - Alex
