Thanks for the update Alex, I'll keep checking back.

Incredible!  No download functionality for over 7 hours and I have just been told that it may take up to 48 more hours for the issue to be fixed.  B&N had no problem charging my Credit Card for the two books I purchased this morning, but did not bother to tell their customers they would not be able to download.  No surprise this company is slowly going out of business.

If they cannot deliver the electronic merchandise, they have no ethical reason to take the money!!

Get your act together B&N and stop ripping off what few customers you have left.

The problem appears to be fixed, my downloads finally came through about an hour ago.

Hi All, This is nothing new for the nook color. I have been having problems with downloads ever since the 1.4 update many many months ago. BN has no problem charging you for the books, apps etc. But then you can't get them! It is a gross mis-statement for them to claim this is a new problem and they expect to have it fixed in a few days. I have been waiting for many months for them to fix the issue.

by on ‎03-08-2013 07:45 PM

bntalk, this issue is not the same one you have.  I would suggest you either call CS or go to a local B&N with your Nook Color.

This issue was resolved.

I keep getting a "Download Error 1016" when I try and open a book.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled - but nothing.  Hope they get this fixed, it's been happening a lot over the past month.

by on ‎07-11-2013 01:53 PM

Kari, I presume you're talking about Nook for PC, Nook for Mac, or Nook Study.  This issue is not related to any of those, and has been resolved.

A quick google search found a thread which details others having the same issue with those apps.  There are a few 'solutions' but the consensus seems to be that there were server issues or heavy server traffic causing the issue.  It's worth mentioning that the issue would likely have had a peak this month with the temporary removal of Nook for PC and Nook for Mac, which resulted in some issues with both, and which should now be fixed.

If you're unable to download anything at any point I would suggest calling CS or using the web support.

If you're using a Nook device taking it in to your local B&N is also an option.

You may also want to post in the forum related to the method you're using for reading ebooks as it may attract more attention there than a reply to a resolved issue.

I just bought a new Nook HD+ and I am trying and trying to register it, and all I get is a "Network Error" and doesn't let me go any further. I contacted a store, and they said they are experiencing outages and are working to fix it. Not a very good first impression if you ask me. I am willing to see how long it takes for it come back up, but it's irritating because I can't do ANYTHING with my Nook. I hope it's ALL resolved soon.

I bought a book about 2 years ago. Now all the sudden when I go to re-read it the book says I purchased it but with an invaid credit card and I cant open it and read it. i have even archived it and unarchived it. I dont want to risk deleting it and having to re-pay 8 bucks for it! What do I do? Has anyone else had this issue??

I am getting feed up with B&N. This used to be my number one place to go but now, I'm thinking I want every book I bought for the past 3 years refunded plus the cost of my Nook itself. I can't download books. I restart my nook, reconnect my wi-fi, do every restart I can think off. It isn't even registering I bought another book! And when I can at least SEE the book, it won't download and gives me some bullshit error. Now, I come to the website and I can't even load my library here without a whole ton of script across the screen. What the hell B&N??

I have been trying to download the latest version update 1.7 to my First Edition Nook, but keep getting error downloading.  I am stuck on verson 1.4.2.  My husband's same Nook, the first Edition, updated just fine.  I have tried to find a place to hook my nook to my computer to complete this task............ but am super frustrated, and have not been able to do so.   Any recommendation would be appreciated greatly!!!

Oliver, you can connect your Nook first edition (and any other Nook) to a USB port on your computer.

Typically computers will have these ports on the back.  They are rectangular in nature and the inside looks like a smaller rectangle taking up half the space and blank space taking the other half.  You should line the plug up so that the hole on it is aligned with the rectangle on the USB port on your computer.

I'd tell you excatly where it was on your computer, but the position varies from computer to computer.

If you are wondering if your computer has USB, it should, unless it was purchased over a decade ago.

So how legally can a company take your money, and then hold their product, that you now own hostage? My Nook WiFi is experincing download 'network' brownouts like crazy. Funny how it can always 'reach the network' when taking my money, but not to reach and retrieve my product. Hey that is a marketing ephipany, shhh Im quiting the job I would so hard at and Im going to pre sell and take money for water in the sahara and then just give people back a letter with their receipt, sorry water is currently unavailable. I have spent hours on the phone with India with the wonderfully knowledgable people at Nook support, one of those hours was explaining to a saleswoman that she was giving me instructions for a nook tablet when I keep repeating I owned a Nook First Edition WiFi and couldnt 'touch' my screan, only my command screen at the bottom had that function. Pretty bad when you have to instruct the person that should know these products inside and out. But then again, what do expect for 2.00 an hour in a struggling ecomony overseas to buy you :smileyindifferent: 3 hours of my life I cant get back, and still have a great paperweight that took my money but wont download my book.

I realize this post is old but apparently this is a problem B&N has from time to time.

I have been trying to download a book for 2 days.  I contacted customer support and there is no "live" person to speak to for 1st edtion..  (wth??)  They force you to use chat. And here is how that went:

Spencer Layne: Hi and thank you for joining Barnes and Noble Digital Chat Support. My name is Spencer.

Me: Hi.

Me: i have a first edition nook. i cannot reach anyone via phone.

Me: they send you to chat

Me: i have been trying to download a book for 2 days. It just tells me it is queued. I unregistered, reset, rebooted, etc.

Me: many times including my modem and routers

Me: nothing is working.

Me: i archived and unarchived also.

Spencer Layne: We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

Spencer Layne: Thank you for bringing this to our notice. We are aware of this issue and have reported this to our concerned team and they are working on a fix. This issue should get resolved as soon as possible.

Me: how do we get it fixed?

Spencer Layne: Please try again after a couple of hours.

Spencer Layne: We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Me: this is already over 2 days

Me: what is the ETR

Me: and shouldn't there be a notice in the website telling users of this so we do not have to go through this?

Spencer Layne: I can understand your concern, however please wait for 1-2 days and if the issue still persists, we will go ahead and refund for the books.

Me:  There should be a notice on the website so that thousands of people do not have to go through this contacting customer service for a known problem with no resolution.

After 2 days they have no estimated time of repair and they say to wait 2 more days!  Shouldn't this be posted somewhere?  Or maybe it is and I am missing it?  I searched by the error and got to this thread.

Anyway, how incredibly frustrating and what poor service.

Is it really that difficult to post that the BN server is down on the website? It would save a lot of heartache.  I just spent two days un-registering, removing battery, rebooting, deleting gift and credit cards for no reason. Now I can't find the stupid gift card so now I am probably out 20.  Good customer service would be to let us know.  Side note, first gen owners (especially those who preordered then waited 3 months) should be able to get a person on the phone.  I was on hold for 20, hung up on - on hold again for 15 then told to go to chat.  Then I was just told to wait 48 hours for my paid product.  I concur with KF67KF, this is poor treatment. BTW hire better IT technicians, servers are pretty straight forward to repair and get an APC.

Hi KF67KF,

I'm terribly sorry you're experiencing this issue. Can you please PM with your account details. Hopefully, I can lend a hand.

by KF67KF on ‎09-17-2013 05:13 PM

Sent.  Thank you!

by Kappleby on ‎09-17-2013 07:16 PM

I haven't been able to download anything for 3 days now.  Everytime I call the customer service I get sorry for the inconvenience now wait 24 more hours!  I find it crazy that this issue has not been resolved after three days and that there has been no formal announcement about it.  This might save some of the people who are rebooting their devices because they think it is a problem on their end a lot of time and headache!  Yet all I find on here is one sentence about it with no time frame on a solution.  If I have to upgrade my device because of this it will not be with a barnes & noble product.

by Carrier555 on ‎09-17-2013 09:30 PM

I fully concur. It is very frustrating and when I upgrade it will not be to a nook either.

There are, apparently, a few issues going on right now.

Some N1E users are not able to download to their devices.  I suspect the work around for this would be to download from the website and sideload it to your N1E.  I know it's not the best, but it should work.

NST/G users are having a purchase issue.  The work around for this is to login to the website and buy the book, then on your NST/G go to the library and click 'refresh', the book should download just fine.

From what I have been told the N1E may have been resolved by the time I make this post, I am unable to verify as I do not have a N1E at hand.  As of about 6pm EST on 9/17 the NST/G issue was still going on.

Nook Support is, as they state above, aware of both of these issues.  I do not know why they don't give the suggested work around I have given.  Both should work, and I can confirm the NST/G work around does work.

I'm going to make a new post in Nook Talk about this issue as those forums are easier to track than these.

Nook is not downloading after 4 days...really???

Time to trade this one in and not purchase a thing ever again.

by on ‎09-23-2013 11:46 AM

The issue should have been resolved, if you're still having problems downloading I would contact customer support.
