Hi all,

As promised, today we have three more moderators joining the fold. Please join me in welcoming BN_Andy, BN_Rick, and BN_CeCe to our community.

Andy, Rick, and CeCe are all leads in our Social Media team and will be here throughout the week to collect feedback & assist where possible. At times, and only when needed, they may also remind you of our Community Guidelines. Of course they also have the authority to delete posts which violate these terms (for a refresher click here).

Collectively, they have over 10 years of customer service experience and share interests in areas such as photography, comic books, pet ownership, and of course NOOK. As always, in addtion to forum posts; feel free to PM any of them with questions or concerns and they'll do their best to get back to you as soon as possible.

New Community Moderator

Categories: Introduction

Hi everyone,

I'm Ivan, a Media Specialist at Barnes and Noble. My background is in film/video production and photography. I'm mostly in charge of producing internal/external support and training videos for our customer service personnel worldwide. I'm a fan of the arts and whenever real life does not become a distraction, I make independent movies.

I’ve learned by working with Alex over the last few weeks that all of you posting here are really knowledgeable about everything NOOK.  Many of you enjoy sharing how you use your NOOKs, brainstorming and providing suggestions for new features, and helping each other when you have questions. I think that’s what makes this community really cool and, like Alex, I look forward to hearing and responding to your feedback.

I may not be able to give a reply to every post, but I will do my best to give you as much information as soon as I can. I’ll also be assisting with collecting user feedback about what you’d love to see on NOOK, so please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts with me as well.

On occasion, and only when necessary, I may also remind you of our Community Guidelines. As part of my role, I do have the authority to delete posts which violate these terms (for a refresher: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/New-to-the-B-N-Community/B-amp-N-Community-Usage-Guidelines/td-p/1223528).

I will generally be on the boards between 9am – 5pm, Monday through Friday. Of course, feel free to PM me at anytime and I’ll do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.

I’m excited to be part of the NOOK community. Please feel free to comment below, ask questions or PM me.

New Product Ideas

For ideas about products and services we currently don’t offer or that don’t fit into one of the categories above.

Are B&N/NOOK really listening to my ideas?

Absolutely! One of the great things about Idea Exchange is that you can track the status of your ideas- as your ideas are sent to the people here at B&N/NOOK who can make them happen, you’ll see the status of your idea is updated. We’ll be telling you if the idea is something we are working on now or would like to do in the future, or if it’s something that is not feasible for us at this time. Rest assured- we’re listening to you!

What do the different Idea Statuses mean?

New Idea

Idea has been submitted to the Idea Exchange.

Under Review

Idea has been forwarded to appropriate business team who is determining feasibility.

Idea has been successfully submitted and is appropriate for the idea exchange (proper category assigned…etc).

Idea or one in similar scope has already been submitted to the Idea Exchange and acknowledged.

Clarification Needed

Idea has the potential to move to another status but more details/information is needed by the idea poster.

Idea has been accepted as a new business case or as an addition to an existing one.

Not Likely

Idea will not be implemented because of business or technical reasons.

Maybe Later

Idea is a good one but not something we can include in a near-term product or software release.

In Progress

Idea has been accepted and is currently in development.

The idea has been fully developed or produced and is now active/available.

Already Exists

B&N/NOOK agreed that it was a good idea and it is already part of an existing service or product.

What do the votes mean?

Just as you can give kudos in the community forums and blogs, you can vote for ideas you like on the Idea Exchange. Ideas with high vote totals are more likely to be recognized and accepted by the teams at B&N who develop our products and services. You can also leave comments on ideas, but remember to be kind!

Why was my idea removed or rejected?

Some Ideas are just not feasible for our business, and will be marked with a status of “Not Likely”. Posts to Idea Exchange will be removed if the post does not contain an idea or violates our Terms of Service.

Categories: Community Update

Hi All,

As promised, all our general discussion threads are being migrated into one area going forward.

Please bookmark the NOOK Talk board for all future device related general discussion.

During the move, the chronological order of threads will be disturbed. However, be assured this will only last for a few minutes and all will return to their normal order.

Thank you for your patience while we move everything over.

We are aware of the issue with some of your downloads, and are working to resolve it as soon as possible. We will provide updates here when we have them available.

Hey All,

We have discovered an issue blocking automatic gmail account creation on HD devices in 2.0.6.

Our devs are working on a fix, but a workaround can be performed by doing the following:

  • Open Email app and type in proper fields (email & password) to add gmail account *At this point email auto-creation is failing
  • Dismiss error message and tap 'Manual setup' button
  • Select IMAP option
  • On Incoming server settings page tap on the 'Security type' field and select SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates); the Port field should update to 993
  • Tap 'Next' button
  • On the Outgoing server settings page tap on"Security type field and select SSL/TLS(Accept all certificates), the Port field should update to 465
  • Tap 'Next' button and you will be directed to the Account option page; select desired options and tap 'Next' button
  • Add account name and proceed; gmail account will be added to device.

Hi Everyone,

Today our NOOK Issue Exchange was reactivated. Updated with new statuses and better tracking.

This will not replace our current support forums and ultimately will serve as a better conduit of feedback between yourselves and our development team.

With that said, a few things you can expect:

  • Better transparency in relation to your concerns and our developers.
  • Weekly updates/comments on reported issues.

There may be instances where an update may not be given initially, rest assured everything is being received and followed up on. However, the absolute BEST way to ensure an issue isn't missed or overlooked is to make it easily visible to us all. Please make your voice heard via the built in Kudo system.

Thank you all for your help and continued support.

Me Too

You'll notice a new feature in our Forums and Q&A areas - Me Too.

Me Too is a little like Kudos in that you're voting on a post, but the usecase is a little different here.

Have you ever read a post and thought, "yeah, I have that same question" or "I am seeing that too" but voting never really seemed appropriate.

'Me Too' is designed as a fast way for you to say, well exactly that.. 'ME TOO'
