Re: Great PubIt Reads

I recommend my own NOOKbook,

The Mysterious Case of Doctor Octavius Plum's Incredible Ever After Machine

When British children, Jennifer and Timothy Goodhew visit their grandfather on the isle of St. Mary's, they are surprised to find him missing. In his place they find a wily, old pirate captain, who has taken control of their grandfather's manor and its servants.

The captain puts the children to work—Timothy in the tumbledown graveyard at the end of the garden, and Jennifer within the manor itself. Naturally, the children are concerned about their missing grandfather and begin to investigate his disappearance.

In the course of their investigations, they discover that the garden surrounding the manor has become wildly overgrown. Furthermore, they are told that entrance to their grandfather's laboratory is strictly forbidden. Undaunted, the children continue their investigations, and in so doing, discover a remarkable secret and a diabolical plot that will change their lives forever.

This novel will, in turn, warm your heart and send chills down your spine. It leads the reader on an unforgettable journey through an eerie manor, an overgrown garden, a tumbledown graveyard, and to a gripping conclusion. For ages 9 and up.

Reviews:

"Throughly enjoyed. What an adventure. If you read out loud to your children, this book is tailor made for that. My granddaughter is only 5 months old but I will be saving this to read for her. Hopefully with many more books from the author by then."

"Has a 'classic' children's book feel to it. Nice."

Alexander Scott is the author of 'The Mysterious Case of Doctor Octavius Plum's Incredible Ever After Machine', 'Wizard Heights - Book 1 - The Legend of the Sorcerer King', and 'Wizard Heights Book 2 - The Library of the Ancients'.

Re: Great PubIt Reads

Hee!  An administrator started this thread?  Maybe I'm the only one who sees the irony, but it seems to me that a thread like this should be completely unnecessary.  I mean, every time you use the search engine on Barnes & Noble you should be able to find an armful of great reads. If that's not possible, then maybe the search engine needs fixing...?

Re: Great PubIt Reads

Hi Jeremy,

Can I please, mention my book Holy Matrimony?  It's the story of Darleen Brazil, a young woman who believes she is married to the perfect man.  She soon learns the hard way that  perfection can be a facade.  Her life crumples around her. She desperately calls out to a God she barely knows, and He answers her cries and helps her.

I'd be thrilled if readers would check it out.  So few people have read it, but everyone that has said they loved it.

Thanks so much!  :-) God bless!

Conventional wisdom says that you should write the book you would love to read, so of course, I think my own book is a great read.  Is it great literature for the ages that will change your life? Probably not; but is it a fun and exciting way for a lover of Regency and other historical romances to pass a couple of pleasant hours on their Nook--absolutely!

A Very Merry Chase - An Old Fashioned Comedy of Errors Style Regency Romance Novel

Very Merry Chase  Set in early 19th century Regency England, and harking back in style to the heyday of Georgette Heyer and Barbara Cartland, A Very Merry Chase is a comedy of both manners and errors that boasts empire fashions, dashing characters, verbal sparring matches and witty repartee mingled with just a hint of mystery, danger and intrigue.

Smiles and Good Reading,

Re: Great PubIt Reads

Hey everyone,

I would love to invite everyone to check out my humor novel, Learn Me Good, available for only $2.99 on the Nook!

Here's the blurb:
Jack Woodson was a thermal design engineer for four years until he was laid off from his job. Now, as a teacher, he faces new challenges. Conference calls have been replaced with parent conferences. Product testing has given way to standardized testing. Instead of business cards, Jack now passes out report cards. The only thing that hasn't changed noticeably is the maturity level of the people surrounding him all day.

Learn Me Good is a hilarious first-person account, inspired by real life experiences. Through a series of emails to Fred Bommerson, his buddy who still works at Heat Pumps Unlimited, Jack chronicles a year-in-the-life of a brand new teacher. With subject lines such as "Irritable Vowel Syndrome," "In math class, no one can hear you scream," and "I love the smell of Lysol in the morning," Jack writes each email with a dash of sarcasm and plenty of irreverent wit.

A GIANT thank you to everyone who has already checked it out, especially to those who have written reviews such as these:

"I love this book. I love any book that can make me laugh so much. It is thoughtful, creative and crazy funny. "

"Even though this is well outside the usual genre I read, I took a chance and I am so glad I did. This was absolutely hilarious!! There were times I was crying from laughing so hard. Great book!"

"After each email ended, I was faced with a conundrum: keep reading on or stop and save the rest for later, savoring each email like a piece of fine chocolate. I wanted to keep reading on, but didn't want this book to end!"

I also invite everyone to visit my blog and my Facebook page to learn more.

Thanks!

John Pearson

Can you address why I cant update my ebook product info? I have modified the text which "saves" even though the Save button does not seem to be working. The upload seem to go through correctly yet the info never gets updated on the site. Why?

Thanks

Re: Great PubIt Reads

The book: Xtabentum: A Novel of Yucatan.

According to Mayan legend, the xtabentum flower that grows wild on the Yucatan peninsula first appeared on the grave of a free-spirited young woman who was scorned for her passion by the people of her village, but loved by the gods for her kind heart.

Xtabentum: A Novel of Yucatan is a story of two young women set in the years following the Mexican Revolution in Merida, Yucatan, one of the wealthiest cities in the world at the time. Amanda Diaz is from the “divine caste,” a small group of families of European descent who dominate the politics and economy of the region. Amanda’s lifelong friend, Carmen, is from the opposite end of the social spectrum, a Mayan Indian who is the daughter of one of the Diaz family servants. Against the true historical background of rebellion and assassination in the unstable country, the whipping of Carmen by a Diaz neighbor exposes the sheltered existence of the two women and drives them apart. The story follows Amanda through her horror at the social injustice of the two-class Mexico to the sacrifices she makes in the name of friendship. Parts of the story take place in modern times, where the discovery of an old birth certificate sets Amanda’s granddaughter in search of a secret about her father’s birth. Her search, told in the first person, is blended with a third-person account of the lives of Amanda and her contemporaries in the 1920s.

Each chapter starts with some Mayan cultural tidbit - myth, recipe, song, etc.

Re: Great PubIt Reads

For all of you readers who enjoy women's fiction by Meg Cabot, Robin Jones Gunn, Melody Carlson, and Kristin Hannah, please check out the first book in my Willow Ryan series entitled Secrets.  Like many other PubIt! authors, my sales have been slow, but I have several five star reviews and have received a lot of compliments on this novel, as well as it's sequel, Promises.  Here's the blurb for the first book in the series.  Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post!

It is the summer of 1986, and recent high school graduate Willow Ryan is going to have a baby, something she never imagined would happen to her. Unable to disclose her secret and unwilling to give up her baby, Willow leaves her Midwestern home for a new life in charming Santa Elena, California, where she lands a job working for a quirky Southern belle named Peggy, who has a knack for finding trouble in the most unlikely places. Willow's new neighbor, a friendly surfer dude named Denny, quickly becomes someone she can count on for anything, but could there be more to their relationship than Willow sees?

"Secrets" will take you on a journey with this independent, determined young woman as she grows up quickly, becomes a mother, and deals with a catastrophic event that makes all of her secrets come to light.

Butterfly

Hey there all of my fellow readers! I have been checking out some great authors on Pubit and NookColor. The Torn series and My Blood Approves series are good. I have a book on Pubit called "Butterfly" by Kimberly sala. Feel free to look it up and check it out. Thanks to all! Here is the synopsis:

A coming of age paranormal romance novel full of surprises that leaves you questioning what is reality and what isn't.

Elizabeth is leading a normal life, at least she thought she was. Her best friend is an aspiring artist, her loving father is hard working and a friend. Her mother on the other hand, is an alcoholic and her choices force Elizabeth to act more as a parent than a teenager. She feels a presence around her, but isn't quite too sure what to make of it. Is it just a trick her overactive imagination is playing on her?

As time passes, Elizabeth grows into a young adult and following a brutal attack that leaves her near death in the hospital, Elizabeth meets Connor, a brooding, attractive detective that unwillingly opens her up to a womanhood of feelings never before felt. She is torn between him and Dylan, a mysterious man that always seems to come around when Elizabeth is in emotional turmoil.

Events beyond her control lead her down a path of self discovery that causes her to question her own beliefs. Imagination takes the best of her judgment and turns her life into a whirl wind of the unexpected. Elizabeth must make a choice that could mean the end of her life as she knows it.
