NO WONDER AMAZON IS KICKING B & N'S BUTT

The technical difficulties that have been wide spread for months is one reason why B & N cannot compete on the E-Book Market.  Kind of sad, really.  All I can tell my readers is to sell their Nook in favor of an I-Pad or Kindle.

Re: NO WONDER AMAZON IS KICKING B & N'S BUTT

No wonder I'm making 3x more on B&N this month than I'm making on Amazon!

It's funny, because the last time I went to update a story on Amazon, it literally took me 10 minutes of pressing the "Save and Publish" button to do it(hit it, wait, technical difficulties and can't proceed, repeat until it finally works).

Not to mention Kobo randomly saying your book is published, but it isn't actually and you have to do some tricks to get it to go through.

Let's not even talk about iTunes potential 2-3 week wait time before they even get your book up on the store(sometimes it's only a couple days, to be fair, but that's only once in awhile).  Also the fact that they kick back my stuff for no reason sometimes, and their requirements for a "pristine" epub are excessively extreme, requiring you to work through a distributor or deal with a mountain of pain in order to adhere to their epub guidelines.

NO WONDER!!

Re: NO WONDER AMAZON IS KICKING B & N'S BUTT

In their most recent earnings reports Amazon reported a loss, BandN a decrease. Closing Bricks and Mortar stores will help BandN's bottom line, what does Amazon have to close? IMO the financial situation of Amazon is weaker than that of BandN. Both leave quite a bit to be desired regarding publishing and marketing ebooks, but IMO they are the best we have now. It's pity that neither organization makes it possible to provide meaningful feedback to their top managements, If they did, Indies would be happier, and they would sell more ebooks.

I market my ebooks with Amazon, Band N, Kobo and Philduke.weebly.com. Here is an interesting comparison of my current best sellers on these sites:

Amazon.com "Sherlock Holmes and the Flying Machine" followed closely by "HEROIN God's Own Medicine."

BarnesandNoble.com "Jack the Ripper versus Sherlock Holmes" followed closely by "KARMA."

Kobo.com "HEROIN God's Own Medicine" followed closely by "ALCOHOL the Devil's Drink."

Based on this it appears that reading tastes are not the same for customers of Amazon and BandN. I hope they both stay in business.

Re: NO WONDER AMAZON IS KICKING B & N'S BUTT

I have just the opposite. Amazon is kicking B & N's butt. My sales on B&N have dropped to almost nothing. I'm trying to research to find out if there is anything else I can do. It was average in the beginning now for the whole month of January I sold three books on B & N. This is making be sick.

Yeah but iBooks is worse. Formatting fails every time. Then again this won't publish at all. I don't get it.

Re: NO WONDER AMAZON IS KICKING B & N'S BUTT

I've had just the opposite experience as you. While my Amazon sales remain decent, I've seen significant increases in B&N sales over the past few months. And he fact that B&N uses pure ePub formatting versus that cobbled-together mess that Amazon calls "KDP" (a recipe consisting of ePub, Mobipocket and who knows what else) makes it a real chore to format.

I love formatting and selling books for the Nook. The Kindle, not so much.

You can simply upload an epub to the KDP. Works for me! See this blog for more: http://notjohnkdp.blogspot.com/

Re: NO WONDER AMAZON IS KICKING B & N'S BUTT

One seems as good as the other to me. My Amazon sales have fallen drastically. I rarely see days of multiple sales there anymore. On B&N I have days where I sell a lot more than one, and there are days when it's zero. I think both sites have similar policies when it comes to algorithms and other tools of book discovery.
