Need Help Publishing a Picture Book

Hi, I'm building a picture book for a client and she wants it delivered Nook ready. I figured I'd use HTML but the tips say HTML can't include images and this picture book is only images—each page is a flattened image.

Hope I'm asking in the right place, any information would be helpful, thanks!

Matt

Re: Need Help Publishing a Picture Book

I found some example code and the cover is included as an img src so I'm going to assume that images are fine to use so I wrote this code up. Would running this through PRESS create an appropriate epub file for publishing?

I appreciate any feedback, thanks!

<style type="text/css">
img {display: block; page-break-after:always;}
</style>
</head>

<body>
<img src='page1.jpg' alt='title' />
<img src='page2.jpg' alt='title' />
<img src='page3.jpg' alt='title' />
<img src='page4.jpg' alt='title' />

</body>
</html>

Re: Need Help Publishing a Picture Book

I've found that using MSWord works for me. I put in the pictures, then do a Save As and choose web page, filtered. This will put the actual jpegs in a separate file.

Hopefully this works for you.

Re: Need Help Publishing a Picture Book

Thank you. Can you explain the process of inserting the images into Word in more detail?

Re: Need Help Publishing a Picture Book

Word is the way to do it. This is for Word 07 by the way.

1. Open your word file (obviously lol)

2. Click the "insert" tab that's to the right of the "home" tab.

3. Click the "picture" button. (normally the 5th one from the right)

4. When the "insert picture" box pops up select the folder the photos are in.

5. Select all the photos you want to insert into the doc file. You can do this by Ctrl clicking each on individually or clicking the first photo and Shift clicking the last one.

6. Hit ok and wait and wait and wait.

Eventually the photos will appear in your document. Then just save as Word 97 doc. file and you should be good to go. Just keep it under 20mb and Nook Press should accept it now.

If you find that when you insert the photos and you get the grid of doom, as I call it (when 2 or 4 photos end up on each page but really small) just make sure your photos are around 600 pixels tall. This works for me.

The cover I keep at 1486 x 2000 and don't put it into the word file myself. This way it satisfies the minimum cover standards for the nook store. Also you get the option to insert it into your manuscript when you're publishing too where I think it resizes it to the correct proportions for you (I'm not sure but no one's complained yet).

Hope that helps!

Any time!

As a bonus, this works with Kobo and Amazon too.
