$79 Limited Edition

I just came home with the Limited Edition from B&N.  The screen seemed a bit dull (compared to my NC :smileywink:) and so I went to "Settings" to adjust the brightness.  Surprise!  (No brightness adjustment for eink screen.  Duh!)

I also miss the better shelving options found on my NC. (Just read a thread here confirming that there is only one way to get a title to a shelf.  Oh well!)

But I really want the convenient weight, size, and long battery life of the NST.  Soo . . . are there other little "surprises" I will find with the NST?

[ Edited ]

I just got my Limited Edition and I think it's great. Really think the white edging sets it off very nicely. This was my first Nook and was very easy to set up. Screen seemed really sharp and clear to me. Don't have very many books yet, but got them all set up in Shelves with no problem. Loving it!  :smileyhappy:

Now I just need to decide on a cover!

I'm not sure that not having a brightness setting on an e-ink screen should actually be a surprise.  That said, it does take a very short amount of time to get used to the e-ink screen.  I thought something was wrong with my first Nook's screen when I got it.

Enjoy!

Take your NC and your NST out in the direct sunlight and just look at the difference..........you are going to LOVE that eInk, trust me!! I had an N1E before I got my NC and read it at the pool and out on the beach. Took my NC out onto the balcony after I bought it, stood in the direct sunlight, and went, "Ooops!!". A non glare screen helps, but the eInk is still much better in the sunlight.

Re: $79 Limited Edition

You will find that this promotional product is not the same as the $99 Simple Touch, despite what B & N claims. It does not come with a charging adapter as the $99 ST does, and It is not the same color. When I returned my defective (touchscreen) Limited Edition to a B & N store, an employee told me that B & N had many problems with this "special" version of the Simple Touch and that I would have better luck with the $99 version. He was right; even a refurbished $99 Simple Touch works better that a new Limited Edition. Also, B & N only replaces defective products with refurbished units.

Re: $79 Limited Edition

I haven't had any problems with the Limited Editions I got in November.  I got one for myself and one as a gift. Since I had a N1E, I already had a power plug, which fit the Limited Edition.

I used to be Snow White, but I drifted.

1) They discontinued including the adapter with the regular models back in the fall as well, though there are reports of some folks still finding the older boxes including it still in stores.

2) It being a different color was advertised as part of its unique, limited nature.

3) I don't know what that particular B&N employee is talking about. Those I know & trust say there's no greater incidence of issues than with the normal ones.

4) It is industry standard to use refurbished units for warranty replacements; B&N states they will do this in the warranty; my unit I purchased refurbished (for $79 BTW) looks and works just like a new unit and is covered by the same 1-year warranty.

So, I'm not quite seeing your problem...other than dealing with a slightly clueless employee; your "issue" seems to have been resolved.

The $99 NST no longer comes with a charging adapter.  They removed it when they dropped the price to $99.  Any boxes that still have a charging adapter are simply leftover stock from when the were more.

Re: $79 Limited Edition

I bought a NST two days ago, and it included a cable and wall wart for charging. Do the boxes on those without these accessories look any different? The USB cable is nice and flexy.

Re: $79 Limited Edition

So many devices use USB chargers these days that I have no shortage of wall plugs.  I didn't consider it an issue to not get one with the NST.

Re: $79 Limited Edition

The NST box with or without the adapter will look the same but will most likely have a different sticker on the lower left back corner specifying the contents. Mine said Nook Reader and USB Cable. The box did not have an adapter. I've also noticed boxes both shrink wrapped and not. I suppose this could be due to them converting old stock with the adapter to new ones without.

I got one with mine, I bought a refurbished one before they came down in price.  It's still in the box.  I use the wall charger I got with my N1E, I use a cable I purchased because I wanted a longer cable.  The cable that came with my N1E is plugged into the computer.  I also sometimes use my cell phone charger, especially if I'm traveling and want to cut down on the number of chargers I take.

Re: $79 Limited Edition

I have happily reached a stage where all my devices use the same size charger, so I only need one for my Nook, phone and bluetooth.
