Re: ANOTHER new Nook this spring? Really??

My guess (and hope) is that the Spring device will be a color e-ink device.  I'd love to see B&N beat Amazon to market with a color e-ink (or other color reflective, aka, not back-lit) device.  The new e-ink Triton screens, while not as vivid and fast as some would like, still seem like potentially good screens for first generation color e-ink nook.

I can't imagine them going color eink.  The best I've seen is stil more the suggestion of color than actual color and the refresh rate is exactly the same as eink.  It would be so little different than what we have, that I couldn't see them spending the money on the color eink displays - unless they've gotten much less expensive...

I'd rather wait for Mirasol or Liquavista; epaper display, still-muted-but-not-as-muted color, and the ability to display video, so the NOOKKids books could possibly work on it.

Supposedly Mirasol is ready to ship and Liquavista isn't far...

I would love to see a Mirasol display on a nook.  I expect I would cringe at the price tag though. :smileywink:

So B&N is developing yet another Nook? I'd be excited and curious if I wasn't so irritated. How about an update to fix the crap that's still wrong with the "new" Nook from last year?

Sheesh Relax. Its just another verson of the Nook tablet. A cheaper version to battle Amazons Fire. A new e-ink Nook wont be here for awhile.(at least 6 months to a year)

I would be surprised if there is even a newer e-ink version released.  Other than necessary software updates I think they've got the N2E exactly where it needs to be.

Actually, the inside word is that the new nook that is rumored is NOT the recently released 8gb NT, it is a different new nook. So...

To me, without substantiation and validation, "inside word" has the same meaning as "rumor".

Isn't that what this entire thread is about?  Rumor and speculation? :smileywink:

Yeah.  Pretty much.

But when someone says they have "inside info" it becomes slightly more accurate... :smileytongue:

I don't have inside info.  FlyingToastr posted in the NT (or NC) board.  He's the insider and he's given words on this.  :smileywink:

Re: ANOTHER new Nook this spring? Really??

I've been reading this rather long thread with as much amusement as interest.  I've had a NST for about two months now and I have found it quite acceptable for downloading and reading books.  If it was never changed/updated/improved, tomorrow it would be as acceptable for reading books as it was yesterday.

I have found that technology, both hardware and software, has very short generational life nowadays and it seems to shorten even more with each new generation.   Having said that, I have personally found the NST to be an inexpensive and convenient device for the purpose for which it was designed: downloading, storing and reading books.

At the risk of getting jumped on in this thread, I for one will enjoy what was acceptable to me when I made my purchase of an NST and not worry about the "bleeding edge" of eReader technology.  To me, the hobby is the reading of the books: it appears that to many others the hobby is the technology itself and the pursuit of the "latest and greatest."  PLEASE HOLD YOUR ARROWS, that was not a criticism, but rather an observation.  Each hobby is as rewarding to its followers as the other.

I do tend to wonder (and this is where the amusement comes in) if some folks on here have any time left to read books what with all the leads, rumors and arguments that demand such close attention.  That being the case, what does it matter (to some) when/if/how the next generation is released?

In all seriousness, this forum does provide an excellent source of very timely, valuable and helpful information to solve issues/problems with the Nook by some very astute and dedicated folks.

Re: ANOTHER new Nook this spring? Really??

Agree. I had a perfectly fine Nook 1 and got seduced by wanting the shiny new toy. I enjoy my NST and don't regret in any way doing the trade in, but I would have been just fine with what I had. I'm disappointed in myself over that portion of the decision. Having said that, the NST is so much lighter- that part I do like. I'll keep this one until it breaks or there's new technology.
