I've been searching various phrases here on and off for a few days now. I swear I saw a post a while back from someone about how to sideload content in Calibre-tagged folders to the N2E. Apparently doing so would make the files appear on the N2E in said folders, thereby creating an easier organizational system than the shelving fiasco? Or did I just imagine this?? I have upwards of 1000 ebooks now, and while I can probably survive without organizing them, I'd like to have some kind of workable solution.
PS - it's not the "shelves work-around" thread by username misterhobbes. It was an older thread, and I just can't seem to find it, if it exists at all...

I don't know about that thread, but I can tell you about my experience sideloading 1000 books with Calibre. It automagically creates a separate folder on the NST for each author.
But there's a trick in the NST Library for seeing them. You have to select "My Files" in the left-hand dropdown selector, and you have to select Grid View rather than List View. (That's the left-hand one of the two icons on the right side of the selector row.) Then when you navigate to your Books folder, you'll see a folder icon for each author and text underneath with the author's name and the number of books in the folder.
Don't ask me why this only works in Grid View. It's not consistent with any other filesystem viewer I know. Someone on the NST development team has got some splainin' to do .

Thanks for replying! I actually *just* noticed what you're talking about last night LOL. What I'm wondering now is if there's some way of changing the metadata plugin in Calibre to create folders by tags instead of authors or something.

I haven't tried it, but you should be able to change the main folder names in Calibre under Preferences/Saving books to disk. Try changing the first parameter in the default template from {author_sort} to {tags}. I expect that ought to do it. Let us know how it works!
