[N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I can't believe this wasn't already created.  :smileywink:

  1. At the very least, please add another indicator for available storage so we know how much room we have left for B&N content.  The way things are now, we have no idea when we are getting close to reaching the limit.
    1. (a) Since B&N seems to have decided to stick with this partition scheme, please make it possible for us to download all of our B&N content to the NOOK for PC app, even if it can't be opened, so we can create backups of our own.  This is quickly becoming a deal breaker for me.
  2. Please make an "Add to Shelf" option available when you double tap on a book in the library.  Going through the whole list over and over again is tedious, especially when you buy one new book and just want to quickly add it to a shelf.
  3. Please increase the number of Reading Now books on the home screen to three, like the New Reads list.  Pretty, pretty please...
  4. Please include the battery indicator when you tap on the clock area to turn WiFi on and off.
  5. Please allow us to clear recommendations from our notifications.  It's driving me crazy to constantly see that I have a notification only to find that I've opened it five times now and it's the same recommendation every single time.
  6. PDF zooming and panning.

How about in addition to last page read being able to sync bookmarks as well as annotations between your Nook devices.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

On my Nook3G and my Nook Color I'm so used to having the time available in a corner. Now it is gone! I know that I can bring up the reading menu (the one with content, bookmarks, text sizes etc.) and the time will appear but I really like it available all the time. Gotten so used to having it I look in the corner of the page for the time when reading a DTB!

Would be nice to have another choice on the Reader screen (where you can select what buttons do what) under settings for 'clock', and have the availability to turn it on as well as whether it appears on the top or bottom.

I suppose not updating the clock and therefore the screen every minute helps to conserve the battery.

This is gonna sound somewhat petty, but I would like the Cityscape screen saver set back.

I second the request for being able to keep the clock visible all the time.  I have a feeling not having it on now has something to do with the way they limit the refresh to every 6 page turns.

With no offense intended, the Nook 2E isn't even a month old.  I don't think update talks are needed anytime soon.

Why not?  We are the first group of users that have used the device.  Feedback should always be welcome.  Are you saying that there should be a time limit before providing feedback?

This is precisely the time an update thread should be started.  It's not a complaint thread but one that brings up first impressions of things that seem to be missing or can be improved upon.  I would think this would be exactly the kind of information B&N would want to see.

Well for one, it probably won't be an update for several months.  Also there's another issue maybe needs to be address since it kind of begs a question for someone that still have 1E.  If it needs an update already did BN bring out a half-ready device and rushed it?

Every device needs updates.  It's the nature of the beast.  I don't think anyone said the device is half-ready or rushed.  Nobody expects perfection and asking for tweaks is not a complaint.

So you're saying that since in your thinking there won't be an update for several months that nobody should say anything until that time?  It takes several months to get an update ready.  When is the best time to tell the developers what is either missing or wanted?

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I'm not even saying that, as much as it just, just came out like a few days ago.  It just seems like an odd time to already wishing for more from a device that is literally in its infancy.  As strange as my sound if it was July one month later I probably wouldn't had thought anything about it.  It just seems too early.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

[ Edited ]

I wholeheartedly agree with all of Nallia's recommendations. Along with an easier way to add to shelves, I'd like to see tge ability to create an archive list on all devices, similar to creating a shelf and other ways to archive besides opening the book. I would also like to have "selectable" archiving capability. Many of us have 3 nook devices now and the NOOKcolor can hold the most content, which rapidly fills up the storage on nooks. I don't want to have to archive content for my NC that I shouldn't have to.

One idea would be when you select a book to archive to have it ask if you want it archived for the device in use only or for all devices. From what I understand the N2E has really about 750 mb reserved for the use of BN purchased content.

The same happened with each previous device and BN seems to understand these are helpful constructive tools. It is also those that adopt early that seem often to do some thorough initial comparisons and critiques. If people wait to express their wishes and concerns, some things may get lost or forgotten. People start adapting to less than optimal ways to do things and begin to live with workarounds, instead of voicing wishes that may be common to most everyone. The inability to "see" files from BN on nook devices is becoming a common issue, and a poorly thought out idea. Nallia is one who expresses the issue coherently and will help all of us to see the problem with this. It basically means that there is some content you cannot have access to unless you are using the ereader. You can't download it and you can't see it on your nook. This is a real issue and does need to be addressed quickly.

Someone pointed this out to me, if you tap the top of the screen when a book is open it displays the name of the book, the battery indicator and the time.  Goes away when you turn the page.

It also displays the bottom function screen when you tap the top of the page.

Thanks Alan. I didn't notice that as I was looking for the time.

So, my mom will be here in about 4 days and I have to give this new, fun toy to her.  Any bets on how long it will be before I break down and buy myself one???

I keep thinking I should wait 6 months or so, to see what might be coming down the pipe.  I know they introduced the N1E WiFi about 6 months after the 3G/WiFi, I keep thinking, will they have something new out again in 6 months.  :smileytongue:  I know, I know, chasing technology is futile.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I was messing with the display yesterday, and I couldn't find text change.  I think improvement might be preferences can be available under settings not just in the book because I had trouble getting the in-book menu to come up.  Do you have to hit the nook at a certain place?

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

I'd like to be able to sync my bn.com ebook wishlist with my N2E.  Unless I'm totally missing something I don't see that option.

Re: [N2E] Wishlist for 1.1 Update

The moment a product is released developers are planning for the first needed update or patch. There is no testing available that finds bugs or needed/missing functionality as quickly as an end user, and companies depend on this information.

Do you really think that an issue is going to be able to be ignored for a month just so the device can be less new before it's brought up? Should we instead wait for people to come here and post angry complaints that just bash the N2E?

I want the device to succeed. I want B&N to succeed. I have a lot of time and money invested in this company and its products. As a consumer and a supporter I feel I have a responsibility to myself and others to do what I can to help with that. If you read my review, you'll see that I think that the N2E is a great devuce and I think B&N did a great job on it. But it isn't perfect and there's no reason to pretend it is to try to spare the feelings of a company that greatly benefits from honest feedback.
