My STR is doing the same thing, but only AFTER the firmware upgrade and seemingly only with some of my sideloaded epubs. It's very inconsistent, sometimes asking if I want to sync with my furthest read page from other devices (even though I have no other devices linked) and then sometimes taking me 2 pages beyond where I last left off. It all depends if I open the book from my home page or from my library. For me, the upgrade was a step backwards and I'd really like the functionality I had before restored.

I am having all of these exact same issues, plus I can no longer connect to my home wi-fi since the software update. Is there any way to remove the update? I'd really like to go back to version 1.0.0.

Mine did the same thing after the update. It was always pg1. I tried restarting it, and that made the books that did show the correct pg number, go back to the dreaded pg1 .
When I took the sd card out and put it back in, I can't remember if I restarted it first, but I now have last pg read showing the correct pg number again.
Even some of my sideloaded books that showed covers, after the update those covers disappeared. Since removing the sd, and putting it back in,they show again. It's worth a try,if you have a sd card installed.I haven't turned it completely off since this worked.
This is the only thing I've done different since the update. Restarts, dumping books/readding books; did not help.

I have 5 friends with N2E's. My wife and I and all of them have this same problem.

I've got the same problem since the 1.01 update earlier this year.
The problem also exists after the 1.10 update.
Restarting / shutting down and starting again don't change the problem.
I put own epub books in internal memory. Since the update, pressing on the "current book" button or clicking the book from the library resets the current page to the first page of the book.
Let someone please fix this bug in the firmware... it's quite annoying, since I tend to read more then one book at once and now need to use bookmarks or write the page-numbers down on a piece of paper... ![]()
Thanks in advance,
Max

I haven't had a problem with the book resetting to page 1 since a couple of updates ago. But, it seems like whenever the NST goes to sleep due to inactivity (screen saver kicks on), when I open it back up, it comes up with the previously read page, not the last page I read. Since it's only 1 page difference it's not that big of a deal, but still mildly annoying.

Same for me. I can't pin it down to exactly what causes it. It definitely happens every single time I plug the nook into my MacBook, iMac, or my husband's MacBook Pro - to charge. Totally 100% reproducable. Rebooting the unit doesn't help, totally factory-restoring it doesn't help, and it seems to only be with side-loaded books. It also seems to randomly forget my last page at other times, but inconsistently, and again - only with sideloaded content. Pleas fix this - it's really annoying. At least it DOES remember bookmarks, so now I just make sure I set a bookmark every time I finish reading.

There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in this behavior. At different times my device has behaved differently, and yours is different from mine. See this thread for more details. In a nutshell, it started to behave properly after I deleted all the sideloaded books on my microSD card, rebooted the NST, and re-sideloaded the books from Calibre.
As an extra added benefit after that procedure, I'm now seeing a number of authors in the screensaver collection who never were displayed before -- Vonnegut, Poe, Stein, Conrad, and Wilde. Go figure that one out, NOOK software developers!
I'm a software developer myself, truth be told, and I can't help observing that the flaky behavior of this device makes me wonder about quality control, and even moreso about robustness of software architecture.

I followed Sun_Cat's advice and everything started to work properly. Thank you!

This is what I have found:
1. After you finish reading, check what page number you are on
2. Go to the home screen, where you will see the dreaded 'Page 1' issue
3. Click on the book on your home screen where it will take you to page 1
4. Now go to your library and select the book that you were reading
5. Your book will now open to the proper page that you last were reading
Wash, rinse, repeat... it does the same thing.
I have re-sideloaded everything from Calibre multiple times and it doesn't change a thing. I have decided to just read one book at a time and let my nook sleep at the page that I left off on. I always create a bookmark when I am done, although I cant seem to figure out how to get back to the bookmark on this interface.

To go to a bookmark while reading:
- Tap the center of the screen to bring up the in-book menu (or whatever the official name is).
- Tap the "content" button.
- Tap the "Bookmarks" tab.
- Locate your bookmark and tap it.

I recently bought a Nook Simple Touch and have found that if reading a book I bought somewhere other than B&N's store, almost every time I go to the home screen, it forgets where I was at in the book I'm reading. I say "almost," because I've spent the last several minutes flipping back and forth between various ebooks (some purchased through B&N, some loaded on from my computer, with Calibre), and, just now, it forgot the page number when I went to the home screen (said I was at page 1 of 1), as it always has previously. However, when I tapped on the book it popped up a message saying that I was at page 110 on another device and do I want to sync to that page. Selecting yes ends up taking me to page 111, not 110 . . .
Just in case it matters, the Nook was running v1.0.0 of the firmware, when I bought it. I updated it to v1.1.2 today, and the issue continued after the update.

I just bought an NST a few days ago and this problem cropped up as soon as I moved the few books I have on it (all free books from Another Sky Press) from the internal memory to the SD card. It never remembers the page number, but once when I clicked on the cover from the home screen it told me that I could sync the device to match the page number to whatever other device (but of course I have no other device). It hasn't done that since, however. Now it will always say page 1, but it will sometimes go to page 1, other times go back to the proper page. I really don't get it.
The Nook is absolutely riddled with problems. I love the device itself, and the screen is wonderful (my eyes hate LCD, so all other tablets at this point aren't really an option for me), but I have rarely encountered anything this poorly developed in the past. I honestly can't believe after all the threads I've read on the numerous (and unfixed) problems with this thing that there haven't been class-action lawsuits. There very much should be. Look at this thread, even. The original date is nearly a year old. This problem has persisted for likely over a year and should be as simple as anything to fix, yet here we are.
This is one of the main reasons I avoided buying an ereader for a long time. The inconsistency and general abundance of complaints is a bit much for most of the companies, but particularly bad with anything not using an LCD screen. I had hoped the Simple Touch would be better given the simplicity of the overall design, but clearly this isn't the case.
Quite a shame. After the support horror stories I've been reading, I'm not likely to buy another BN-developed device in the future. I hope none of the larger problems I've read about become issues on my NST. I can deal with the page thing, but this little guy doesn't seem to have much of a life expectancy, software problems aside.

Not really so simple. For a lengthy discussion of the issue, see this thread at XDA Developers. Note that in spite of all the talk there about a solution, it isn't actually a solution at all. It's just a workaround to fix up some inconsistencies in the library database after the fact.
The root causes -- I suspect multiple causes since we're seeing a cluster of related and inconsistent behaviors -- are buried deep in the proprietary B&N software, probably in several different library and reader programs as well as the media scanner mentioned in the XDA thread.
Sorting out all the causes, fixing all the affected programs without breaking them in other ways, testing that they all still interact correctly, and rolling out a solution that fixes existing databases and refrains from corrupting them in the future is not so simple.
Do I think B&N should make the effort? Absolutely I do. I've been calling for it for months. But it doesn't help the mood of this community (or of the developers for that matter) by characterizing it as simple.
