What I want to know is when I can download a library book WITHOUT needing my computer as the middleman?

According to the WSJ, sometime next year. Although it doesn't say which Nooks would get this ability.

Hi! So I just got a Simple Touch. I followed your instructions (deleting .adobe-digital-editions file) and ADE recognized my nook--yay! Then I it would not allow me drag the library book into the nook (keep getting an error message saying that "no permission to copy document here"). So I closed ADE, reopened it and poof! Nook is gone. So I go back and delete the Digital Editions file and still ADE won't recognize my nook.
Help!
Okay--I got it to work and download onto my nook! I deleted the books from ADE, downloaded them again on ADE and then dragged them to the nook. That seemed to do the trick.
Thanks anyway!

ADE cannot read B&N ePub books at this time. I assuming you downloaded the books to your computer and are trying to sideload them to the Nook? Frist, do you have access to WiFi. That's the easiest way to get B&N books to your Nook.
If not, your best bet is to download Nook for PC, install it and then download the books to your computer using that program. You can then use the manage device option in Nook for PC, (which will show up after you connect the Nook) to transfer the books or you can simply use Windows Explorer to drag and drop them to the Nook.
If you download them directly from the website, check the file name. It is generally something like 12345555.v2.ePub. Remove the first period so it looks 12345555v2.ePub, or the Nook won't recognize. But Nook for PC will give you a more recognizable name.
In any event, you can't use ADE for B&N purchased books so that is probably your issue.

I set up ADE- no problems. I borrowed a book from the library - no problems. I can open it and read it on my computer. Then I connected my Nook, and authorized the device. I dragged the book to my Nook. Now I see the book in My Documents. When I select the book to read it I get this message USER NOT ACTIVATED. What else do I need to do?
Thanks,
Janice

Ok, I deleted the .adobe-digital-editions folder. I didn;t have a my digitals edition folder. I reconnected my Nook and did the Authorize the Device again. Now when I click on the book which is in My Documents it displays OPENING YOUR DOCUMENT for a couple of seconds, then it goes back to My Documents list.
Now what?
Thanks,
Janice

My wife got a new Nook tablet for Christmas. I have had a Nook color for about 1 year. She is now trying to download library books onto the Nook tablet but is having problems. We downloaded the book from the library into Adobe Digital Editions. When I tried to drag the book onto the Nook icon, an error msg came up that said "No permission to copy document here"
We also tried to download another book directly from the Library's digital websit. It looked like it downloaded ok but when I tried to open it in the "My Downloads" file of the Nook Tablet, an error message said "This Nook cannot read th is file. It may be an unsupported format."
Can someone help me get this worked out so we can download library books via my PC and/or via wi-fi connection? Thanks.

First, is the Nook registered in ADE? If not you cannot get a valid transfer.

I was able to get Adobe Digital Reader to recognize the Nook Tablet and I downloaded the book from the liabrary so I am good there.
As far as downloading directly from the Digital Library via wi-fi? is that possible with the Nook Tablet?

Quick question: I downloaded the ebook from my library, opened it in Adobe Digital Edition, dragged it to the nook. When the nook is plugged into my computer it and I have ADE opened, I can see the library book listed. When I unplug the nook from the computer, I can't locate the book on my device.
I'm confused.

Try powering you Nook all the way down and restart. Sometimes, especially if you did not correctly eject Nook from PC, the new books don't show up until you do that.

Has there been any news on B&N offering the ability to put library books directly onto a nook yet?
I am rather frustrated by this whole thing. I bought a simple touch for my mother so that she could read library books after her hand surgery this month. It isn't simple at all. As it stands now, I am going to have to make a 3 hour trip across the state to set up her computer to do this, and hope I can give her a simple set of instructions so that she will be able to use it. I already spent an hour on the phone with her and 3 calls to tech support to talk her through making me her nook friend so that I could lend her books from my nook color.

The last we heard, they were working on it for sometime this spring, I think.
If you both have Windows 7 computers, look into using Remote Assistance. You can access and control her computer from your house. I do this with my mom all the time to help her. I haven't actually tried to install a program, but I have set a program up after it was installed. I'd look into it as a possibility.

Thank you so much for this step by step! I was ready to throw my new Nook tablet out the window. I borrow so many more books than I can afford to buy. I cannot begin to tell you how much this helped me. I thought I had wasted my money on the NOOK tablet.
