I get this error " This NOOK cannot read this file. It may be an unsupported format." and all .jpg files show up as icons with a "?" in the center.
I'm not talking about setting up screensavers. I simple have a few comic books that are in .jpg format and I would like to read on Nook STR.
If I load the same set of .jpg files into the "Screensaver" folder, then these .jpg files do show up as screensaver when Nook goes to sleep. But these files themselves just won't open in any way when I click on them no matter where I put them in Nook.

I don't think you can open any jpg or png files unless they are in the screensaver.

The only suggestion I can offer is that there are a bunch of applications that can convert a set of jpgs into a PDF file, which the NST can read.

The "why" is that it is not designed to. Now, the why behind that design decision is a different story, one we will probably never get from B&N.
Best bet, as suggested, convert to a pdf.
But even then, without pan/zoom capability, you will need to make sure they are readable on the small (relative to a normal manga/comic's page size) screen.

It's not FALSE since they don't say the graphics are for reading. I do agree they should put a note on their specs-page that graphic formats are for screensaver to be clearer.
However, they also give you 14 days to return if you don't like it or if it doesn't do what you want.. Feel free.
