What specific use doesa micro SD card supply for a NOOK ST?

I am wondering if I should buy myself a micro SC card.

I've found that our boys need cards for their NOOK Tabletsin order to run some of the apps.

In order to download a lot of books is it going to be necessary for me to have a micro SDcard

 in my NOOK ST?

I am not planning on putting my ownfiles onto my NOKO ST.

Downloads do not overflow to the SD card when onboard memory is full. At that point, you need to archive or sideload the content, even that purchased from B&N.

Since this runs to several 100 books at a time, it should not be a problem for most people.

If you are absolutely opposed to managing things through sideloading, then the SD card does nothing for you.

Since the unit doesn't have 3G capability, which I miss, that means I have to have loaded the books I may want access to if wifi connectivity is going to be dodgy, correct?

Re: What specific use doesa micro SD card supply for a NOOK ST?

The base NST has room for 750 MB of B&N downloaded content and 240 MB of content that is "sideloaded" (copied from a PC using the USB cable).  This can mean roughly 400-800 downloaded books and 100-200 sideloaded.  (Book sizes vary a lot, anywhere from 200 KB to 2 MB depending on length and whether or not there are illustrations.  Standards change.  A recent Stephen King can be ten times the size of a classic Agatha Christie.  You can fit a lot of classics in the same space as a few more recent novels.)

The Micro SD card is only needed if you fill up the 240 MB with sideloaded content and need more space.

I miss 3G. This means that if wifi connectivity will be dodgy wherever I am I must load books I want to read prior to travel, correct?

Yes.  If you don't have Wifi, you can't use Wifi to get books to your NOOK.

You will either need to have them pre-loaded before your trips or bring along a PC so you can sideload.

Yeah, but even if you're going on a really long vacation you should be able to download dozens of books for your trip into the main memory.
