Error message when closing NookStudy

Every time I close the NOOKstudy program I get the following error message:

 

"We are sorry, but this Barnes & Noble application has encountered a problem and it needs to close.  Would you like to restart the application now?"

 

Not a big deal since I am actually closing the program -- just a little irksome.  I'm on Windows Vista.

Thanks for the report - we're having a little trouble reproducing the error.  If you have a moment, we'd like to grab the log file from your computer to understand what's happening.  The next time you see this - before closing the application, do the following:

 

1 - Go to the top left of the application.

2 - Right click on the logo and a menu appears.

3 - Choose 'About NOOKstudy'.

4 - Click the button 'Copy log info to clipboard'.

5 - Now come back to this forum and hit CTRL+V to paste the clipboard items in an email to me.

Thanks for the response.  Unfortunately I don't have a log file to show you.  It happens just after I close the program.  I click the X in the upper right, the window closes, and then a message box pops up with the error message.  I clicked yes to restart the program, tried to grab the log file, but then it says the log file is empty.

 

Incidentally, I've been having a similar problem with the Barnes & Noble Desktop Reader on the same computer (Window Vista).  It's as though the computer thinks the program has crashed when I've simply just closed the program as normal.  Let me know if I there's anything else I can tell you to help resolve the problem.

Sorry for the delayed response - we are having a difficult time reproducing it here, but we want to resolve it.  The additional information about the Barnes & Noble Desktop Reader is helpful - I will get back to you shortly (promise not to drop it!).

Just a little follow-up which might help figure this out...

 

I've installed the NOOK for PC app, and I got the exact same error message closing as I do with NOOKstudy except it's followed by "code 012" in parentheses.

Thank you for sending this - even though I didn't respond, I did pick it up for our development team to use as information.  Did you by any chance participate in the pilot research program?  If so, perhaps we should discuss offline since pilot students had a different upgrade process.  Thanks!

I have come to this site looking to fix the very same problem that lkmiller describes (for nook for pc) : when I close the program windows gives me an error message, as if believing that the program has crashed instead of merely closing.

 

This happened before the recent update and now that the nook for pc program updated I still receive the error message. I am also on windows vista.

 

I thought perhaps that I was closing the program incorrectly, but using the close button in the upper right corner is the only method I can find to close nook for pc.  It is a shame because I am holding off on purchasing ebooks until I can understand why this happens and fix this issue.

I just downloaded the PC version of nook study and I am receiving this error:

NookError

 

This error code will change depending on how many times you open and close it.

 

Also, I downloaded the latest version that is on the B&N site as of 5:08 PM, 9/3/2010.

 

I hope this helps.

 

I cannot find a log in event viewer that is recording this error.

Interesting ...mine always says "code 012" no matter if I re-open and close it or not.  What version of Windows?  I'm on Vista 64-bit.

I just downloaded and installed the new 1.1 version of NOOKstudy.  Windows gives me the following alert upon closing:

NOOKstudy has stopped working

 

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

 

-------------------------

 

Again it acts as if the program crashed when I was closing it as normal.  This is on Windows Vista 64-bit.

Closing NOOK for PC, I got a different error code tonight.  It's the same error message box pictured above except it says "code 008".

I got a similar message when I downloaded an update to the NookStudy as instructed when I opened it today.

 

 "We are sorry, but this Barnes & Noble application has encountered a problem and it needs to close.  

 

Would you like to restart the application now?

 

      [ YES ]   [ NO ]"

 

 

The update is Version 1.1

 

 

I cannot get the NookStudy to start.  It always freezes with the above message.  I have restarted the computer.

 

Should I reload the NookStudy?

I am also having the exact same issue.  Afterwards I get the "send error report?" message that comes up when an application crashes. I make sure to send the report, but does it go anywhere really?

This started when I updated to the new version of nookstudy. And now I wish I hadn't.  Test tomorrow and now my textbook is unavailable!  I don't know if I ever want to risk buying an etextbook again. Restarting my computer didn't help and I can't seem to re-download it successfully either.

Im having a problem closing my Nook for the PC the error message read:

 

We are sorry, but this Barnes & Noble applicaiton has encountered a problem and it needs to close (code 08) and (code 012).

 

Would you like to retart the applicationn.
