Re: Dolphin Browser HD is here!

[ Edited ]

To answer my own questions--I did figure out a quick way to switch between tablet and desktop mode. You can do it with a gesture!

I also created a gesture to take me to my home page. Cool.

And I figured out how to create the folders. Duh, I didn't realize there was a context menu button in the status bar. Never mind :smileyhappy:  Hopefully my thicknes will help someone else...

I'm very happy with this browser, it really solves just about all my irritations with the nook. Now if only they'd add a Facebook and Overdrive app, I'd be completely happy.

The main Dophin Feature page alludes to being able to do it with an add-on, but I can't figure out how--or even if--we can get the add-ons on the Nook.

Thanks for any help.

I

It looks like we don't have the add-ons (at least for now.)

Have you figured out how to add to the "Webzine" feature?  Do you have to create an account with Dolphin to get access to this?

Thanks,

Re: Dolphin Browser HD is here!

No, I can't figure out the Webzine either. But it looks kinda like a newsfeed reader--if I got it right. I already am using Pulse for that, and really like it, so not sure I want/need to bother with Webzine.

Its too bad about the add-ons, as there are some that look useful. But now that I can switch views with a swipe/gesture, I've really got 99.9 percent of the functionality I want in the browser. I really like the "Speed dials" too, just another easy place to store your most used bookmarks.

Its funny yesterday I was just saying to my spouse that everything is great about the nook except the crappy browser experience, and that's the one thing that would drive me to upgrade to a "real" tablet. Now that we have Dolphin I see no need. Even the app situation is better in a way, because I can live without an IMDB app, for instance, if I can easily use the web version. And even Facebook is more useable.  I don't really need a zillion apps on my tablet, I've got my iPhone for that.

Still, a Facebook app is still on my wanted list, as (I confess) I use it entirely too much and would like to be able to launch it right from the home screen without opening the browser.  And Overdrive, Overdrive, Overdrive, is anyone out there listening?? :smileyhappy:

Re: Dolphin Browser HD is here!

The Dolphin Browser is great. However it is crppled on the Nook. I installed it for its formating capability and its Add-ons. Unfortunately, we can't get add-ons for the nook. I've got to Root this pig. ( I've had the NOOK for one day.... a gift. T.G.)

You can add to Webzine by tapping the "Featured" banner on the top right side of the Webzine screen. Delete by holding down on a news feed.  However, I prefer Pulse for news feeds.

SORTING Bookmarks:

You can access bookmarks editing page under Menu> Bookmarks>Quick Access>Bookmarks. Drag the sorting icon on the right side of the bookmarks.  The "sorting Icon" is the little symbol to the far right of the bookmark name strip.

Hope this helps.

I attempted to install the Dolphin browser but get the error message, "Unable to install.  This applicaiton was not abe to install onto your device.  Please "Archive" and then "Unarchive" the application to try again.  I've got a Nook Tablet.  Ideas?  I archived and unarchived, with no resolution.

I actually had this happen to both mine and my wife's.  I archived and then unarchived and it worked on mine.  But I had to do it twice to get it to work on my wife's.  It did work though.

Stock web button

Has anyone found a way to make dolphin open everytime you press the built in browsers button?

Re: Stock web button

No, because the "stock button" is a launcher for the native browser.  It is much easier to launch Dolphin from it's Icon on your main panels anyway.  You do not have to press "N" then "Web".

Re: Dolphin Browser HD is here!

I downloaded Dolphin and it seems to work ok but when I went to use  the Gestures list it said unable to load  and to insert an SD card. I did get to a page where I was able to draw a gesture but it was unable to save.

Is that right? It needs an SD card to "gesture" ?

thanks

Very annoyed that the addons aren't accessible. Was so happy only to have the rug yanked out from under me. :smileysad:

You should be able to set Dolphin to be the default browser by  selecting it as default browser in the settings, though it doesn't work all that well.

On the dolphin browser, open the menu (circle with three lines) -> More -> Settings -> Dolphin Settings -> Set as default browser

Now your links should open in Dolphin by default, and the Web icon should load it too, though it does something weird instead. For me, pressing the Web icon loads the old browser, but when I put any url in it - it goes into Dolphin. I do hope this bugs gets ironed out eventually, it really bothers me.

Re: Dolphin Browser HD is here!

I can't get it to install either, even after archiving/unarchiving several times, deleting and redownloading, and rebooting.

I HAD Dolphin installed from the Amazon app store from before the last OS lockdown and deleted it to install this official version. Now I have neither and I'm pi**ed.

Re: Dolphin Browser HD is here!

I encountered all sorts of problems when I first downloaded the Dolphin Browser. I had books that wouldn't download, Netflix kept crashing, and I was unable to access my email via the default browser.

I finally had to call customer service - twice, because the first representative told me that it was a problem on their end and that I had to wait 5 days before the problem was resolved.

My second call to customer service did the trick. The guy walked me through all sorts of quick fixes (all of which I had tried already, such as archiving and unarchiving, etc.) - none of those fixes worked. He finally had me erase and deregister my tablet. I hesitated to do so, but since nothing else was working, I really had no choice.

In the end, erasing and re-registering my NT solved the problem. I have experienced no problems since then and the Dolphin Browser is working like a charm. Additionally, everything else is also working glitch free.

Re: Dolphin Browser HD is here!

I just got my NT today, but I was very glad to see this browser available in the apps market.

I have wanted an alternative browser ever since I got my NC a year ago. I like the default browser, but I like Dolphin HD better.

Now someone please put a better music player on the market and I will be totally happy.

http://download.cnet.com/8301-2007_4-57389097-12/dolphin-develops-sonar-to-talk-to-your-browser/ it might be wishful thinking but i wonder if the nook tablet's version of dolphin hd will get this feature in the future. It has a mic and technically it runs off of android software. I emailed the devs. I'm cool with using the gestures but this would be a nice feature.
