Just noticed a new free browser app was uploaded today--Puffin browser. Haven't had a chance to explore it too much but there are several improvements over the B&N browser:
Has tabs
Since its an app, you can park it on your home screen!
has a back "button" in the status bar so you don't have to scroll all the way up (yes, I know you can back swipe on the status bar too, but the single touch button is faster.)
Also has a menu at the bottom which has back and forward buttons as well as access to bookmarks.
On the bookmark page there is a link for "home"
It automatically imported all my bookmarks from the B&N browser. It also seems to be faster.
one downside--it does not support Flash.
Other than that, so far, so good.

I downloaded it on release day and it is super fast. And best of all, all of my favs imported with no prob. Maybe flash will be available soon. I read that they are still fine tuning it.

And you are able to post on here without using HTML and still create paragraphs. That's nice.

While I'm still way partial to Dolphin, it's nice to have (supported) variety and gives me hope that my favorite browser is on the way.

One hint - due to the fantastic BN search engine, you can't find it by searching for Puffin, Puffin web browser, etc. Just search for 'browser'. It didn't seem to be in 'New Apps', either.
Not quite as easy to enter text in vertical position as I had hoped - the finger position accuracy needs quite a bit of work to be used for typing, and every time I touch the reply box, it shifts the screen to the top of the page and covers the reply box with the popup keyboard so you can't see it. But the loss of html and ability to put on screen may make it worth it unti BN gets its act together.

It's pretty fast and while it's heads above the stock browser, there are things I still don't like about it. Again, it's still better that the stock browser.

Just downloaded this and I like it a lot, but is there any way to get it to fit on the screen holding it vertically rather than having to move it horizontally to get the whole screen?
Also, I just did asearch for Puffin and it showed up fine.

TinaLTX, I also have found that it really works best in landscape mode--at least for the majority of websites it just doesn't scale properly for portrait mode.
But it is just so much faster loading than the B&N browser, and even the small things like the back button in the status bar and the ability to keep it on the home screen make it much more useable for me. Hopefully they will provide upgrades and eventually Flash compatibility. I'd gladly pay for a version which supported Flash.

The free Puffin web browser does not support flash at this time.

Thanks so much for the "tip." I tried searching for Puffin and couldn't locate the app. Off to download now![]()

Does anyone know how to access the settings feature for the Puffin Browser. I have tried to find how to access it and have been unable to do so. Thanks

There is a text box left of the WiFi & battery symbol at the bottom of the screen. Tap it and then tap "more". Tap the bottom half of the blank screen and you get settings.
Puffin is fast but still needs work. Input on secondary screens doesn't work well. Text spacing is a little hard to read. It has to support flash to be successful. This browser is promising but not ready for prime time yet.
