Apologies for the all caps title, i felt like being dramatic. I haven't seen any related posts lately and this is something cool that isn't highly promoted about giving ebooks to people for their nook tablet/other nooks. Last year you couldn't but this holiday season you can! Go to any Barnes and Noble book store and ask if they can give you a print out of the ISBN of the E-READER version of the book and take it to the registers. Ask the cashier to write in that ISBN and an onboard message will appear for the email of the person you want to give the ebook to. After your transaction is complete a REDEEM number will be located on the bottom of the reciept. In order to redeem the person you're giving the ebook to goes to BN.com/redeem and enters that code. Then voila! You have given an ebook as a gift. This is a perfect gift for folks who find gift cards to be impersonal gifts or know exactly what e-book someone wants for christmas on their Nook Tablet/other nooks. PS. This also means that physical barnes and noble stores are directly getting the money for ebooks. Happy holidays and enjoy your Nook Tablet!

Great thing!  I do hope at some point they make it possible for us to do online as well by using the person's email address, if possible.  Also, still holding out for magazine subsriptions-gifting and using gift cards for and so on.

I must admit I was skeptical about this; however I just returned from my local B&N and I asked the Nook Expert about this and was told that yes you  can do it.   He said they just received the instructions on how to do it and have not processed one yet.  

I wonder if B&N will make a big announcement on this, since I have seen posts and reviews elsewhere where they tout the Fire and the Kobo only will allow this.

I've done this a few times.  Mostly only to buy ebooks for myself.  I like being able to pay with cash. It helps me keep track of my "entertainment budget."

I went in the other day to buy an ebook as a gift and they gave me this little envelope to put the receipt in.  You can have the ebook offer "emailed" to the giftee, or you can have them put in your email and then just put the receipt with the access code into a card as a surprise. 

I heard a rumor you can also do it with apps but I haven't tried yet.  And I'm not sure if magazines would ring as individual issues or as a subscription.

I'm not sure we can do apps yet - the way we ring out ebooks has to do with the difference between the print ISBN (which apps don't have) and the digital one. I'll try it tomorrow though.

I was talking to an employee the other day about it and we noticed that while she couldn't look up the apps in her computer, the website gives each product a BN ID.  She typed that number into a register and it sounds like it came up just like my ebook purchases.  There weren't any apps that I wanted to buy at the moment, so I didn't go ahead with it, but I thought it was pretty cool.

now if they would only let us do this through the website everything would be perfect.  fortunately I have 2 BN's convenient to me so I can go into the store but for those who don't live close to a BN web access would be ideal.
