Dear B&N,

A repartitioning where I must come into a store is a non-starter.  I ordered my Tablet online, can receive and install updates online, and you could create a repartitioning tool for online download.  Please do so.

A better choice would be a selection at device registration time (which you will probably have to do anyway).

Acer A500/8GB: Android 4.0.3 rooted; Motorola Droid: Android 2.2.3 rooted.
Nook Tablet/16GB: B&N 1.4.2 rooted; Nook Glow: B&N 1.1.5 rooted.
Nook Touch: B&N 1.1.2 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G: B&N 1.7.0 rooted.
We are Borg&Noble. Rooting is futile. You will be automatically updated.

My question is will they get rid of my sideloaded apps if I repartition? I don't want to lose anything I have since I use them for school work.

Repartitioning wipes everything from your device, including "sideloaded" apps.

Some people's minds are like cement; all mixed up and permanently set.

Repartitioning will involve a complete reformat of your device.

However, once that's done, you can use the SD card method to restore a 1.4.0 operating system and sideload apps as you like.

The software updates do not check partition status;  they just format the partitions that are there.

I redid my partitioning manually several weeks ago, then need to do an OS reinstall and reroot, but all went fine.

"Repartitioning will involve a complete reformat of your device."

__________

Well, that's a deal-breaker for me. I'm not going to reinstall 50+ apps.

15+ years ago, I could run a PC with multiple operating systems and resize disk partitions to my heart's content, with no data loss or disruption, in the comfort of my own home, using OTC software. Now my major options are to live with the factory-set malpartitioning or drive to a store to have my device completely wiped. Progress! :smileyhappy:

@JMTR,

If spending an hour to an hour and a half to reinstall 50 apps is a deal breaker, you need to learn some patience!

Consider using Titanium Backup for this task.

Acer A500/8GB: Android 4.0.3 rooted; Motorola Droid: Android 2.2.3 rooted.
Nook Tablet/16GB: B&N 1.4.2 rooted; Nook Glow: B&N 1.1.5 rooted.
Nook Touch: B&N 1.1.2 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G: B&N 1.7.0 rooted.

According to whom? You don't know what my time-management priorities are.

In any event, it's not simply pushing a button 50 times. I would have to relocate each APK on the Web and resideload it. Not to mention reinstalling and reconfiguring Google Services Framework to make some of the apps function.

Not only can you automate the restore process in Titanium, but you can back up your data as well as your apps.

I believe you need to restore from Titanium to 1.4.0 - the fix for sideloading in 1.4.1/1.4.2 interferes with using Titanium to install apps, or did for me.

Also, you don't need to drive to the store to get your partitioning redone.  I did mine before BN had decided they were going to make repartitioning available.   It's a bit of a pain to do yourself but is doable.

The nearest B&N is 6 hours away from me! Not happening!

Plus, I'd really hate to have to set up Taptu again - it took forever! (I follow way too many feeds...)
