White Letters Black Background ?

I have been looking at the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire. There are many things I like better about the Nook, but I read mostly at night in bed and the Kindle Fire allows you to have white letters on a black background. The Nook in Night mode allows white letters on a dark grey background but there is still a backlit glow to it that I find annoying. I tried turning down the brightness, but then the white letters get dim. Is there any way to get the bright white letters on a pitch black background like the Kindle Fire?

It sounds like this behavior in the reader has carried over from the NC, and I'm sorry it has.  The Nook app for Android supports real black backgrounds;  I'm not sure why the reader does not, but  I think it may reflect a conscious decision on BN's part not to support it on the NC/NT platforms.

When reading:

1. Tap the screen
2. Select the fonts ("text") option.
3. Select night for the theme.

That gets you the grey background and white letters on the NC, at least. On another android device, try installing the nook app and put that in night mode -- that gives a much darker background than the reader on the NC is capable of. If it is fixed on the NT, that's great, but on the NC it was very bothersome for some of us, and the OP seems to be saying the NT retains the grey rather than black background in night mode.

I'm sorry;  I mis-read the original post.  Yes, it's white letters on a dark grey background on the NT as well.
