I hardly find those results surprising. You'd likely see very much the same results for anything priced as a luxury item. Cadillac depended on it for years.

Re: iPad owners older and richer than other tablet owners, says study - blarcky

I loved (?) the comments section at the end of the article, mainly from smart-a**ed little twits. You know what? I am a senior citizen, so I guess that makes me "old". I am not "dumb". I have a Masters Degree. And, I probably know more about Android than most people do, having been a BETA tester for Motorola on numerous upgrades and updates on 3 different devices for over a year.

I own a N1E, NST, and a NOOK Color with a 32gb n2a card. I enjoy them. Oh, and I have a both a PC and a laptop....I enjoy them, as well.

On the other side of the coin, I enjoy iTunes and my various iPods, ranging from the first Shuffle to the newest ones, two Classic iPods, and a Nano. I have close to 1500 songs in my iTunes Library.

I intend to buy a dedicated tablet and have done lots of research on both Android tablets and the iPad. I have chosen to purchase the iPad3 when it comes out, not because I am "too dumb" or "too old" to figure out how to use an Android tablet, but because I feel the iPad best suits my needs. I want a tablet that not only gives me WiFi, but also 3G (or 4G LTE) access and I do not want the small screen size of a NOOK. See how all of this works? Oh, and I realize that the iPad is more expensive, but I can afford it, (oops, guess that makes me "wealthy"...so sue me...LOL) and it's what I want. It has nothing to do with being "old", "dumb", or what the anti-Apple people feel is a member of some kind of Apple brainwashed cult. I guess I will never, understand this anti-Apple group....so childish and they just make themselves sound like jealous little children.

I see an awful lot of young people using iPads........and they don't look all that wealthy to me. Go into any Apple store and look around...........not too many "old" people are there........unless people in their 30's and 40's are now considered "old". Articles like this one are just stupid, in my opinion, and really serve no useful purpose whatsoever.

Well I will say this: my mom, who is a bright woman but not the most computer savvy uses a macbook air, and she actually goes to the apple stores for "training" and help whenever she cannot figure something out... The bricks and mortar stores with technical assistance are a plus for consumers... and also where BN can benefit from having a network of stores with in store staff... The richer part, that is a function of price.... Apple has positioned themsleves as the highend device...

I went to the Apple store in Southern California with my gf a few weeks ago.  She had an appt. to speak with one of the techs there about problems with her iPhone.  The place was a zoo.  We were in there for a little over an hour and I was ready to slit my wrists by the time we left.  I will never buy a product that requires me to go into one of those stores to get support.

Re: iPad owners older and richer than other tablet owners, says study - blarcky

In my family: two iPhones, a nook simple touch, nook color, and nook tablet... We've basically subscribed to the nook for reading / tablet needs, iPhone for communication / music needs combo... Works well for me, the nook still has a stronger library for reading material and the iPad is a little too large to be a reader i carry everywhere and in one hand IMHO... The nook reader on the iPhone works well enough so my book reading content can mostly work on my phone as well I'd I want it... *If apple came out with a really nice 7" iPad, I might consider converting to it... But as it is now, I'm happy with the nook... I also value the in store bricks and mortar experience of the nook, ability to read books in store for free... I also want to support BN for that in store browsing experience... I hope BN is able to innovate to tie in more in store features in the nook to keep the bricks and mortar book store thriving...

Re: iPad owners older and richer than other tablet owners, says study

I am neither old nor rich and I bought an ipad 2(refurbished-saved $80 and get same warranty as a brand new one). I originally bought a NC because it was cheaper. Although it is a fair device, it only satisfied about half my needs. I like the ability to change the font size, but the apps are seriously lacking, it does not support non-latin fonts, is not very visually impaired friendly, it is difficult to get music and videos to work on it, and you are limited as to where you get your books. Ipads have options that make it easier for the visually impaired, it supports non-latin fonts, it's very easy to download music and videos, there are tons of useful apps, you can download books from practically anywhere, and the charger is not a piece of you know what! I only wish I had purchased the ipad first! I could have saved myself $250, which I could have used for more books (since ebooks have gone up in price significantly since I bought the NC, with B&N's prices often much higher than Amazon!)

NOOKs do support non-latin fonts.

Some people's minds are like cement; all mixed up and permanently set.

There you go! I bought my NC and a n2a card just to bide my time until the iPad 3 comes out. I "thought" at first it might suffice and stop me from buying an iPad, but  it hasn't. I love it, but it just doesn't make the grade. I hate the switching back and forth from stock to Android, and after the upgrade, videos won't play on the stock side if the n2a card is installed. And yes, I did use DVD Catalyst to convert some movies I already had since you cannot buy or rent movies from the Android Market, because it considers the NC with the n2a card a "rooted device". That's what pushed me over the cliff right to the iPad 3. I'll stick with iTunes for movies, music, and the wide selection of apps. You get what you pay for. The NOOKS are great e-readers, though. I would never switch to a different dedicated e-reader.

Isnt life fun ? :smileyhappy:

You get to do, see, and try all these neat things !

And tell everyone about your experience !

That is not restrictive, it's all part of freedom, and thats good.

And its not wasted money, in the long run. Because you always seem to get what you want, dont you?

Fine, but don't be like other Apple users THAT I HAVE HEARD on the Internet, who say that if you buy anything other than an iPad, it's because you're too lazy to work hard enough to afford an iPad.  Yes, I am almost quoting word-for-word something that someone said in the comments section at another site.  In fact, he called Android tablet owners "welfare addicts."   I'm a freelance writer and the program director at an addiction-recovery facility.....I'm not rich, I'm definitely solidly middle class....but I had an iPad and RETURNED it. Not because of the cost, but because I hate the big size of it. It's not, for me, "portable enough."

Re: iPad owners older and richer than other tablet owners, says study - blarcky

My Dad at Christmas asked me what tab he should get for my 75 year old mother.  The answer was simple, iPad2 (because he couldn't wait for the 3 obviously since it was a Christmas present).  They are retired and have money so I guess they qualify as older and richer.  My reasoning was simple though.  They think the screen on my 9" netbook is small so I don't think a 7" tab (with even less screen space) would have worked out too well.  Also, if they had gone Android I would have been stuck as tech support whereas if there is anything other than something simple, I will refer then to the Genius.  The stores in my location seem to have quality people and I have never waited more than 5 minutes past my appointment time.

And the screen size of the iPad is what I want.....and prefer. My two final choices were the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the iPad 3..........I just settled on the iPad although, if it weren't for iTunes, I would probably consider it a toss-up between the two. If I chose it just because it's Apple, then I probably would have an iPhone, but I do not........I have an Android phone and am totally happy with it and will buy another one rather than buy an iPhone.

Time and message boards have taught me that there are some mighty strange people out there...........and most are probably 13 year old kids sitting at home in Mommy's basement making absurd statements like the one you referenced!! LMAO

Is the NT's implementation of Unicode complete? I ask because there's a website on Ancient Greek, which I frequent on my PC, that uses Unicode. But when I visited the site on my NT, using either the stock browser or the Dolphin HD browser, some of the Greek letters did not display properly. Empty squares appeared in place of letters with diacritical marks (breathing marks or accents). Needless to say, this result was disappointing.

http://socrates.berkeley.edu/~ancgreek/

Another of my favorite Ancient Greek sites uses Shockwave, and doesn't run at all on the NT, but I guess that's a complaint for another day.
