BUYERS BEWARE Nook Sucks!

Whatever you do, do not purchase a Nook. I have had a Kindle and it had an unfortuanate accident with a lake so I decided to try out the Nook. I use mine for about an hour a day for the past year and the last 4 months the touch screen has been a night mare. I've cleaned it, charged it EVERYTHING. I can click on a book and it opens the "shop" feature. The touch turn page feature rarely works. It is just an awful piece of crap. When it first started doing this I called Nook and they sent me a replacement but I got mine back to working so I just sent the replacement back, now I wish I would have kept the darn thing. Horrible waste of money, I'm going back to KINDLE!

I'm sorry, but I'm not believing this post. You say that you have been using it "for an hour a day for the past year." But the Nook Tablet has only been sold since mid-November 2011, and you're making your complaing on the Nook TABLET forum. That being said, you say you received a replacement but didn't use it, and then you're now complaining that the one that B&N tried to replace is not working?

Hold on a minute! This person was provided a replacement then decided to send the replacement back instead of the unit that was experiencing the problems... This entire post sounds like it should be deleted because it is not credible

So, you complained to B&N, they sent you a new one, and you sent it back without using it. But you still think you have the right to trash them for their product? It wouldn't have been a "horrible waste of money" for you if you had let them help you (as they tried to do by sending you a replacement). I don't think you'll find a lot of support here with a post like this. Save your allowence and go buy something else next time.

Yeah, the nook sucks. So what else is new? The kindle sucks too. Nook and kindle are more DRM machines than modern e-readers.
Both devices are sandboxes (toys) for peeking at DRM content in the separate walled gardens of the Amazon/B&N/Apple cartel. The nook at least supports the epub standard used by a handful of independent ebook stores, but the nook reader application and organization application are perpetually half-baked, each feature is rushed from the oven before it's finished in order to push out new (half-baked) features. The kindle has relatively polished software, but shopping through the self-published Amazon junk is a chore and who wants to see Amazon become "The World's Only eBookstore"?
Neither device allows meaningful access to purchased DRM content which would allow third-parties to create reader software that could potentially and fundamentally transform the reading experience. For example, imagine an application that automatically diagrams a "social network" of the characters in a novel. The technology is here, but Amazon and B&N are more concerned with selling books than providing new reading experiences. In fact, a little digging though these boards will show that the nook reader application has many long-standing and annoying bugs indicating that B&N even has trouble replicating the traditional "deadwood book" experience ... with a high-tech electronic device that presumably has none of the limitations of a paper book!
When I can buy an e-reader device that can be used to purchase ebooks from any store that can be read with a variety of "reader" software programs, then I will show you and e-reader that doesn't suck.

Sadly there's a real risk of Amazon becoming the "World's Only Bookstore" period. Or at least the US's only.
And that's a major major reason for choosing the Nook Tablet even if I had to supplement it with a CM7 card.

I, for one, LOVE my Nook.
Mine has had its quirks but what machine doesn't?
My laptop has quirks, my phone has quirks, my TV has quirks ... point made.
I have never had an issue with the touchscreen that a little Windex won't cure.
I had ONE situation where the tablet would not turn on so I called customer service and spoke to a very nice man who promptly assisted me in fixing it. Did I mention I called them on Easter?
I WOULD like it to get more battery life but then again I would like ALLof my gadgets to get more battery life in general.
If you overcharge a battery on any peice of equipment it ruins the unit. Powering off the equipment when you are not using it can help conserve power along with adjusting the brightness of the screen, putting it on power save mode and turning off the wireless search function.
So "buyer" there is no need to "beware". User malfunction is different from equipment malfunction.

Well I got a nook for my birthday and loved it. I played with it during the night and then made absolute sure that I turned it off so my batteries wouldn't die, and when I woke up I wanted to use it, but it wouldn't turn on, so I figured it must be that it accidentally turned on at night. I charged it and it still wouldn't turn on.... Finally after pushing the button out of pure frustration it suddenly worked and said it was updating..... Well I took it back to Best Buy and got to trade it for a new one. After only having my new one for only 3 hours...Guess what..... It completely turned off while I was in the middle of using it. I thought I must have mistakenly pushed the power button, but it wouldn't turn on again. I even read all the directions to figure out why it was doing that. I am frustrated that the inventors would sell hundred dollar nooks to people and not even fix the cliches. I come from a struggling family and for my 16th b-day all the wanted to give me was a nook, so my aunt and uncle also pitched in to help pay for my nook. I've decided that I will ask for my money back and by a kindle with it instead. I have had a very bad first impressions to nook!

It sounds to me like you had the extreme misfortune to get two defective products in a row. Take it back and exchange it for a new one.

Did you wait for it to get done updating? As updates come on occasion and need to wait for it to download a 100-200mb firmware and install it on your device. Just a matter of timing on your part?
Same with the replacement? Updating to new firmware?
Curious as getting 2 in a row malfuntioning is hard to comprehend for having that much bad luck.

It's interesting to me when people write in and mention things like -

Is it that -
1) Some people are just super unlucky.
2) Out of a million people buying a device there will always be 10 who get 3 defective units in a row and because they complain loudly it seems more frequent.
3) Something else?

It's just statistically so unlikely that someone would keep getting a defective unit.
