Book Download

Just got the Nook Tablet from Santa - purchased two books, but they won't download onto the Nook.  All it shows is the blank progress bar and says it's "downloading."  This has been going on for over 24 hours.  Is this the normal amount of time to wait for a book to download?  I would think it would be a lot shorter download time.  If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.....

Re: Book Download

It only takes a few seconds to download. Occassionally a book won'T download due to server issues or a corrupted book file. Try turning off your nook completely. Then start it up again. Reconnect to the internet. Archive, then unarchive the book, then try dowloading it again.

If you cannot archive the book on the device, than archive on the B&N website.

Re: Book Download

I'm having the same problem, books downloading forever and never actually downloading.  I tried shutting my nook tablet on and off and archiving but it does not help.  I'm so frustrated.  I also can't get ebooks from my library to open.

Re: Book Download

Make sure your nook isn't full.  I checked mine tried to download a book and found that I had filled all 1 gig that they allow us access to inspite of supposedly having 8 gig on my new nook color.  Apparently B&N reserved most of the 8 gig for themselves and didn't allow us to use the full amount advertised.  Kind of false advertising stating that we can get 8 gig when reality allows only 1 gig of use.

Re: Book Download

@Inquisitve, Books downloaded from B&N do NOT go into the 1 gig of space for owner designated storage. B&N books, as well as B&N apps go into the 7 gig of space alloted for B&N materials. If you have already received the 1.4.1 update, I believe you will see under settings there is now an indicator showing you how much space is remaining for storage for your dowloaded B&N items, in addition to the indicator for your sideloaded material.

Re: Book Download

I am having the same problem. I had to download the book to my computer from the B&N site, into some free software I found for organizing ebooks-calibre.

Then I had to connect my nook to my computer and add the book onto it from the calibre library.

The book still would not open on my NT until I put in the full name and full number of the credit card I used to buy the book.

What a pain in the butt!

I tired turning it on and off, archiving and un-archiving, no luck. The book is STILL 'downloading' from the original purchase.

Re: Book Download

Having the exact same problem. I got my NT yesterday, purchased an app with no difficulties, then tried to purchase a book and got the no-progress progress bar. The exact same thing happened when I tried to "purchase" a free book from the B&N store -- it just won't download to my NT. I got emails thanking me for my purchases, I can see the books on my PC and download them to my PC, but the NT won't take them. Archiving/unarchiving didn't help, either from the NT itself or from the B&N website on my computer. The NT will connect to my WiFi, web browsing and Netflix work just fine, but it doesn't seem to like talking to my account.

Re: Book Download

I am experincing similar issues with my NT not connecting to the BN store. I started another thread about it. It was working fine prior to the software update (1.4.1). What software version is your tablet?

Re: Book Download

Cat, turn off the nt to get the perpetual download icon to stop, then restart. Connect your tablet to wi-fi, making sure your tablet says "connected to internet". Then go to B&N shop and try downloading a free book to make sure this issue is not just for the one book you tried to download. You can sort books by price. If you are unable to download the second book, you can try manually installing the 1.4.1 software update. Ihad 3 out of 500 of my books that would not download under 1.4, but I was able toget them to successfully dowload after I updated to1.4.1. If all else fails, deregister your tablet, then reregister it. This is usually the solution of last resort, but since you don't appear to have very many books in your B&N library, it's a good option for you to try.

Re: Book Download

Try going to library in the book tab then hitting the sync arrow at the bottom left screen. It works for me every time. No need to shut down your tablet.

Re: Book Download

laurieb52, the 1.4.1 update solved my problem. I'm not sure why my NT didn't already have the 1.4.1 update installed, but doing a manual install fixed things. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the help laurieb52! When I woke up this am that book was loaded-maybe B&N had a glitch last night?

My NT is always connected to the internet-should I turn the wi-fi off and only turn it on when I need it?

I thought the updates were suppose to automatically install. I am nervous to install it by myself-is it worth it?

Re: Book Download

Are you referring to the Nook Touch?  There's no "library in the book tab," There's a "book tab in the libary," and I can't find a sync arrow.

Nothing else has worked.  I did side load the book, but that's not a very good solution (and I'm actually pretty annoyed I had to install software on my computer and create an Adobe account to do it).

I tried all the solutions presented; we even de/re-registered.  All the other books download just fine; the book in question downloads on all our other nooks.  It's ridiculous.

To add insult to injury, my wife found the book in question for less money on Amazon. :smileysurprised:

Re: Book Download

Sorry... I meant tablet; the names are getting confusing.  I did not see the sync button.  I do not have the tablet in front of me right now (I'm at work), though.
