I would like to see a new dedicated music player app become available. I've used Android Music and it works really well, but any new offering would be well received. Cover Art grabber is another useful app that goes out and finds cover art automatically for all your music files. The stock all-in-one media player is just not doing it for me...

I second this request. The stock player is a minimalist as possible and rather poorly designed.

I agree, the one originally installed is not very user friendly at all. If another app were available I'd get it in a heartbeat.

Just as a side note, I did email the developer of Android Music app. He seemed interested when I told him a lot of people would probably jump at the chance for an alternative music player app for the nook. From the sound of it, I don't think that he even really knew that it was an option for him to submit it for the nook.
I know the best route to go to get new apps on the nook is to email the developer but I just wanted to generate some interest so that maybe other people would do something like that to their favorite music player app developer as well (or to this same one at info@jrtstudio.com).

I just bought a 16Gig Nook Tablet and added 32G Ram in the hopes that I could carry my music library with me to listen while I read -- What a disappointment!
Am I missing something, or is the only way to listen to music (and list it) to let it play sequentially or randomly through the entire song list? It appears to let me add songs, one by one, to what it calls a "playlist," but I see no way to access playlists. In fact, I see no actual listing menu options at all, except for every single song I add appearing in one reallllly long list.
I assume there is still no new audio or media player app for the tablet?
That sucks.

Correct. The media player app that came with the Tablet is at best a generic, minimally functioned "player". Really no bells or whistles at all. When I first got my tablet, I was able to sideload Android Music. This is a music player app I found on both Amazon and Google app stores. It works pretty well and has playlists, etc.. I wrote to the developer about creating a version for the nook's, and while he was open to the suggestion, admitted that he was spending his time working on an overall upgrade to it, and renaming it as well. But yes, we still need a better music player.

Yes you are missing something. You can make playlists by adding songs or albums or even artists. You can select music by browsing songs, album, artist or playlist. Once I figured out the NC player (I think it is identical to the Tablet), it does everything I need except let me browse by genre, so I created playlists based on genre.
Go to your INSTRUCTION MANUAL page 121 to learn how to browse your collection and create and access playlists.

It is not pretty but the stock music player is actually not that bad once you get used to it. It will organize by artist, with album breakdowns. Or just by albums and playlist, yes you can create playlist. Also for the most part it does bring in the album covers. I use iTunes to buy most of my music and from iTunes the transfer is very easy. You can play music by your playlist, artist, or album. You can also play from the main list or pick and choose. Like I said not pretty, but workable.

The stock music player is not that bad. I wouldn't go so far to call it horrendous. I'm fine with it. If you want a better music player get an N2A and use the Android Player. Otherwise, get over it.

So since you're fine with it nobody else can ask for an alternative? Personally I would rather not go through the hassle, however minimal it is, of rooting the device. I shouldn't have to go that far just for a new media player. Maybe it isn't horrendous, and maybe I'm misunderstanding the target customer demographic or something, but the number of apps dedicated to mimicking the sounds of gas escaping the body should never eclipse the number of apps that allow me to listen to my music. I think we can all agree on which is the most valuable function.

They music player is very frustrating for me since the brower only lets me display by Artist. I have a bunch of Podcasts by by several writers and a guest. All I see are names and I have no idea what the subject of the pod casts is because I can't see the title. If the brower allowed me to organize by title I could know at a glance what the subject of my podcasts are.
I can touch each one and see the title, but that means I have to go through the interface that does not let me back out easily. I have the choice of play, add to playlist, delete or search, You can't cancel, BN should be ashamed of how basic this thing is. Why doesn't this thing group stuff by subfolders?

Hey there Czechboy.
Thank you for starting this VERY highly relevant topic (02-17-2012 08:21 AM ).
I am late to responding to this kind of discussion. In Dec 2010, I purchased the Nook Colour - I've been disappointed ever since with the built in player.
Now have the tablet, for several months - still wish there were a better player...
I also DESPISE the way the B & N forums do not embed the thread replies below what one IS REPLYING TO!!!!

Beck903,
Great response (March) in your post. I am with you and I've been in the computer field a very long time. I had expected much more from Barnes & Noble's attempts with their Reader and their "Tablet"...
For example, I had a mass of MP3 and WMA files and saved them all to my Nook SD memory card for later musical "enjoyment". Welll...... of course the WMA files will not play on Nook devices - I have to go back to my PC and re-rip (or convert) all the WMA files to MP3 files and RE-UPLOAD them to my Nook. Again.....

Okay, I can see from the length of time this has been up that B&N has given it ZERO response.
I bought my Nook color tablet about the time this thread was launched and was instantly disappointed in the installed player and that there is zip worthwhile in the market -- And I'm not being particular!
All I want is to listen to music that doesn't lock up, and a easy-to-read and navigate playlist.
Too much to ask for?
Too much to ask that something you bought actually workes?!
