Email downloads, then disappears. Not left on org. email server either

I have spent three days with NOOK Chat, my email service provider and still have no answers to why this is happening. Scenerio:  Set up Nook's Email for personal use. Noted that "leave on server" was checked. Then tried it. I watched as 11 emails downloaded. Fast refresh of screen and only 5 remained. No problem, think I, I have them left on the server.  So, I go online to email server and ONLY the 5 were there. The six others were gone.  Happened two days in a row.  Just off phone with 3rd NOOK Chat. We went through a reset of Email and I sent myself emails from work and my spouses email account. Mine downloaded fine, yet I saw my husband's download. Fast refresh and theirs was gone. Went to email server and it was gone, but mine (which did stay after downloading) was there. Chat could not help. Told me to call a number that hung up after I touched all the correct numbers! Anyone out there have a clue what is going on?   Thanks!

CenturyLink.

I contacted CenturytLink - they said it was the Nook App.  Called Nook support this morning - I was told to re-start the Email App for the 6th time and told to "watch it." Tried not to laugh - guy was just trying to do his support "script."  Finally said I could not afford to loose any more emails so the app is not being used. I suggested another email app to see if it is an issue with CenturytLink and mobile devices, but support was not very helpful. He insisted it is not the Nook App, but CenturyLink's issue with mobile devices.

Are you using POP3 or IMAP?

POP 3 was all it allowed me to use.  That is why the "leave on server" was checked.

I see I do have option under manual setting to use IMAP. Trying right now. Window came up "Setup could not finish."

Re: Email downloads, then disappears. Not left on org. email server either

So, when I search online - more folks have had this problem.  Yet, the three techs I contacted were unaware of any issues.  Stranger yet - one email I recall that "left" - I emailed the sender and asked them to re-send.  They said something very unusual had happened because it was NOT in their sent folder. Yes. It was really sent!  LOL.

Does anyone know another email app that will work?  Thanks.

Can you access Century-Link via a browser?  If yes, then you could down load the Dolphin browser from the B&N App Store and use it to access your Internet E-mail.  I use the native Nook E-mail App if I want to send a quick note to another, however, I access my Yahoo Mail account via the browser if I want access to my contacts and personal folders.

Re: Email downloads, then disappears. Not left on org. email server either

Similar thing happened to me when I first got my tablet.  Verrrry frustrating!  Had me cursing a blue streak...then I discovered the problem:  It was a PICNIC error.  That's tech-support speak for "Problem In Chair Not In Computer."  In other words, I was the problem.  :smileyfrustrated:

Here is what was happening:  I access all of my email accounts on my PC using Outlook.  I keep this PC on all the time with Outlook running in the background.  I set the NT options to "leave mail on server" so Outlook could also download the messages.  It did not occur to me (until AFTER all the cursing) that I needed to check Outlook's options.  Basically, Outlook was downloading my emails and deleting them from the server BECAUSE I HAD PREVIOUSLY TOLD IT TO!  If I happened to check email on my NT before Outlook got ahold of it, the messages were there.  But as soon as Outlook downloaded the message it would disappear from NT.

I do not know if this would apply to your situation, or if you are even still having this problem, but I thought I'd share my story in the hope it would help.

Re: Email downloads, then disappears. Not left on org. email server either

I never got a solution from B&N, but I did get help from my e-mail server. The NOOK uses an android based operating system and IMAP is recommended for mobile device setup. I was using POP3. I deleted my POP3 Account (to delete you have to Open the Mail App. In the top "row" just under the title you will see a drop down box with an account name. Open it with the "open gadget" then select "accounts". Long press the account you want to remove. A dialog box opens. One of the options is "Remove Account"), and re-added it as IMAP. My e-mail works fine now. The instructions for setting up IMAP on an android device can be found here:
