FRUSTRATED!!!!

I took the plunge and bought myself the new Nook Tablet.  Brought it home, let it charged for three hours, watched the little video AND NOW IT WON'T LET ME CONNECT TO THE WI-FI! It's having issues with being 'Connected, but redirected.'  I have an idea that it is because I am staying at a hotel and whenever I log onto the internet, I have to accept the hotel's terms.

Of course B&N customer service is closed right now. Argg...  Any suggestions?

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

Having the same problem, here at work. The wireless is free, just have to go to the homepage and accept the TOS, but I cannot get to the webpage. The NT keeps telling me it needs to go to the web browser to redirect or something, but when I hit continue, it pops up a blank screen. I know its not the wireless here, I can access it on my phone.

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

try to forget and reconnect from that network.

i think you were redirected to a flash page were you need to accept TOS

if unable to see the TOS try to launch a new window and it will show there. just accept it or put in the password

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

Tried that... tried to open a browser page, it just hangs on the URL search. Might have something to do with the certificate, on my phone it always pops up a warning that the certificate doesnt match, but I thought that was due to me just picking a random webpage, and the browser gets redirected to the TOS... Dunno. Tried disabling pop up blocker and error msg option... no go.

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

Hi Sneegle,

Sorry for the trouble you're having connecting to Wi-Fi.

Have you tried powering your device completely off/on? If not please do so, and see if that helps.

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

I've had problems with my Nook Color in attempting to connect to networks at hotels and airports that capture your HTTP requests and redirect the browser to a portal webpage asking for TOS agreement or a credit card number.  It would appear that the browser was hung so I would go back and forth between the settings screen and the browser and eventually it would work.  I tried to do some searching online and finally found this post on xda.developers.com:

There is no support for proxy in network settings, additionally, after receiving an IP address from DHCP, the device appears to connect to a website to verify connectivity. If you have a captive portal network setup (where HTTP outgoing requests are redirected to a login page), then the verification process will just hang. You will be unable to go anywhere using the included browser. After several minutes, the verification process will fail, and then you may be able to connect to the captive portal using the web browser.

Now that post is about a year old so it's likely that an NC OS update no longer requires this silent connection to verify connectivity, but you never know.  I've also read that if you can get a static IP address instead of using DHCP, you won't have this problem, but I'm not a network guy.  I haven't tried to connect to one of these redirect portal type Internet services in quite a while so I don't know if the problem still exists on the NC.

This post probably isn't much help to you, but maybe it will jog the memory of someone that knows a bit more (hopefully BN tech support).

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

I believe the proxy server may be the issue too.  My NC will not connect via Wi-Fi at work due to that problem (checked most recently a couple of weeks ago), and likewise I've had problems in hotels and airplanes.  I have been hoping to see that issue had been fixed in the NT, and hoping then that the NC would get fixed when 1.4 comes along, but sounds like no luck.  I have to say it's amazed me that BN has let this particular problem linger for so long.  Here at work, by the way, many other tablets are used widely and none have this issue except the BN NC.  I really like my NC (unrooted) otherwise but have had to accept that when it comes to Wi-Fi, it's got problems.  I really believe that if a BN exec traveled with the NC and tried to use the wi-fi along the way, the problem might then get addressed.

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

Well I chatted with customer service, they basically had me reset to defaults on the browser settings, power off and on. going to try the desktop browser mode when I get to work tonight, see what happens.

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

Same thing, I bought the tablet last night and it took me all day today to load my books and now I cannot log into email or hulu.  It just sits for 5 minutes logging in and then says it can't connect.  I have full connection to my wi-fi network and it's becoming frustrating.  I'm thinking of returning it because the benefits of this new tablet don't even work.

Re: FRUSTRATED!!!!

Bought my tablet yesteday and love it, however I was unable to connect to email, Told me server unable to connect with provider.  Contacted CS and although they were very helpful they could not connect me either,  Went into store this morning and once again they were very helpful but still could not connect, told me that it was my ATT provider.  Got home and called ATT who went through several things and it did not connect.

Was told that I could be handed over to a specialists who would charge be a one time fee.  Didn't like that idea but what was I going to do?

Never had any problems with my two other nooks.  Within 20 minutes the ATT guy had me up and running.

Going to send a letter to customer service but doubt anything will come of it.

But loving this tablet.
